GRACE KATHERINE (JEANIS) BOWERS Age 90, of Riverside, California, passed away September 25, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. The burial will be on October 14, 2016 from 12:30pm-1:00pm at the Riverside National Cemetery. A celebration of Grace's life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the family home, 7819 Ralston Place, Riverside, CA, 92508. All are welcome. Grace was born on February 8, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the youngest of six children born to Louis James Jeanis and Ellen Violet (Eckvall) Jeanis. During World War II she was a switchboard operator and danced with the USO troupe. Grace was a gifted artist and writer especially poetry. She began painting at 11 years old. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago. She was also an avid crossword puzzle solver, Scrabble player, and reader. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Frank William Bowers. She was a dutiful military wife, living around the world while her husband served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Grace was the mother of four wonderful children: Gary William Bowers, Karen Leigh Bowers, Gregory James Bowers, and Deborah Maria Bowers Tanner (Randy). She had five beautiful grandchildren: Amy Smith, Michael Green, Marisa Bowers Glover (Richard), Skyler Tanner (Sarah), and Chelsea Tanner. Her lovely great-grandchildren are Alexis, Zillah, Haylee, Rylan, Liam, and Jack. Grace is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and friends at Wellbrook Assisted Living in Riverside. Grace was preceded in death by husband Frank; son Gary; daughters Karen and Deborah; brothers George Jeanis, Edward Jeanis, and Robert (Bob) Jeanis; sisters Marian Marr, and Evelyn Volberding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
