Ali Reynolds Obituary
Reynolds, Ali L., - 72, of Atlantic City, Ali L. Reynolds of Atlantic City, NJ peacefully departed this life and entered eternal rest on January 4, 2023. Ali was born on November 14, 1950 to the late Annie Bentley in Newport News, VA. She was educated in the Newport News Public Schools and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1970. Ali went on to continue her education at Kean University where she was the first Black homecoming queen. She later graduated from Kean University with a Bachelor's degree. In 1984 she began her career with Atlantic County Government for the Department of Family & Community Development as the Rent & Housing Coordinator. She was later reassigned to the Department of Administrative Services as the Chief of Administration. While serving as Chief Administrator she was appointed Vice Chairwoman of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority Board. She also served on the CRDA board as secretary and co-chair until she resigned after more than 16 years on the board and 27 years working for Atlantic County Government to take the position as the Director of Community Development Partnerships for CRDA and held that position until she retired. Ali worked diligently in her community and served on several boards including the Atlantic County Advisory Board, Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority and United Progress Inc. She previously worked for Trenton's city government and the Urban League of Metropolitan Trenton. Ali was a remarkable woman who loved her community and was well loved by everyone she encountered. She was a mother figure to many and had such a beautiful, warm and loving spirit. She is predeceased by her mother, Annie Bentley; her sister, Annie Reynolds; her brother, Raymond S. Reynolds; her first cousin, Larry F. Clark; and her stepdaughter, Deathera Clarke. She leaves to cherish her memories, her only child and beloved son, James Michael Brown, Jr. "Mykee"; her daughter-in-love and caretaker, DaShera Spence; nieces, Jaime Hicks-Jones, Theresa J. Reynolds, Tia Reynolds-Fisher, Joy Townsel and Monique Dabney; nephew, Mark Hicks; bonus sons, Yahsyn Ward, Aziz Rankins, Harith Nellom, Rashaun Braumfield and Abdur-Rahim Abdullah; bonus grandson, Aziz Grissom; her sister friends, Birdie L. Cody and Amber Ward; goddaughters, Asheyth Hudson and Tyyona White; her fur baby, Ila Amore, and a host of other family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11am at Second Baptist Church, 110 Reverend Dr. Isaac S. Cole Plaza, Atlantic City, Arrangements by Jennings Funeral Home, Pleasantville.
