QUINTA A. "QUEENIE" FORMICA obituary

QUINTA FORMICA Obituary

FORMICA, QUINTA A. "QUEENIE" - died in Northfield on September 4, 2011, after an extended illness. Queenie was born on July 30, 1917 to Vincenza and Giulio Tomasini, the second of twelve children. She resided her entire life in Atlantic City until 4 ½ years ago when illness took her to Meadowview Nursing Home in Northfield. A lifetime member of St. Michael's Parish, Queenie attended daily Mass and was active in Mary Help of Christians Society. After graduating St. Michael's School during the Depression, Queenie went to work at Woolworth 5 & 10 Store, she stayed and retired after 45 years of service. During that long period, she acquired many lifetime friends, including the President of Woolworth. Her customers used to refer to Woolworth's as "Queenie's 5 & 10". Shortly after WWII, she married her childhood sweetheart, Dominick A. "Tar" Formica and during their 41 years before his death, they enjoyed many travels on the East and West Coasts. They also enjoyed weekend visits to New York to enjoy the many theater plays and musicals. Marriage in the Formica Family introduced Queenie to the Bakery business where she also learned to employ her baking talents. Shortly after the death of her beloved "Dom", she went to work at Fralinger Salt Water Taffy on the boardwalk where she once again earned much love and friendship from coworkers and customers. When Atlantic City acquired casinos, one could find Queenie depositing quarters at a sometime lucky slot machine. Queenie was everyone's "Best Friend Forever". Not a mean bone in her body, always pleasant, care-giving, selfless, positive to describe this beautiful, spiritually lived long lifeâ€"ONE OF GOD'S GREAT CREATIONS! Queenie is predeceased by her parents, three sisters, Catherine and Jeanette Tomasini, and Phyllis Tobasso; three brothers, Dante, Michael and Norman Tomasini. She is survived by sisters, Antoinette Ford of Pleasantville, Margaret Daniels of Virginia Beach, Loretta Tomasini and Virginia Bennett of Ventnor; one brother Albert Tomasini of Galloway; sisters-in law Terry Tomasini of Ventnor, Anne Formica of Margate, Aquilla and Lorraine Formica of Atlantic City; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and a multitude of friends who will surely miss their beloved Queenie. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 8th at 10:00am at St. Michael's Church, 10 N. Mississippi Ave., Atlantic City where viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Michael's Church. Arrangements are by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home.
