CLIFFORD SPRIGGS Obituary

On Wednesday, June 4, 2014, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our loved one, Mr. Clifton Benjamin Spriggs, of 923 Augusta Ave., Petersburg, Va., at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.

A native of Dinwiddie County, Va., Mr. Spriggs was born on June 17, 1939, to Albert Lee Spriggs and Mary Spriggs. He accepted Christ and joined the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, Va. He was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1957. He retired from C & P Telephone Co. with over 30 years of service.

Mr. Spriggs was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Lee Spriggs and Mary Spriggs; sisters, Elizabeth Spriggs, Alice Spriggs Redricks and Louise Spriggs Scott; brothers, Walter Spriggs, Albert L. Spriggs Jr. and Ulysses Spriggs.

He leaves to cherish his memories his very devoted caregiver and wife of 42 years, Alice Baugh Spriggs of Petersburg, Va.; one son, Mark Spriggs of McKenney, Va.; two sisters, Bertha Bonner of Dinwiddie, Va., and Lillie Spriggs of Leesburg, Va.; devoted mother-in-law, Mrs. Marie Baugh of Petersburg, Va.; eight very devoted sisters-in-law, Virginia Spriggs, Nancy Pride, Beatrice Johnson (Eddie Jr.), Rosa Epps, Mary Burrow (Alphonso "Ike"), Alma Maclin (Richard), Artmessia Snipes (Robert) and Katherine Griffin (Wayne), all of Petersburg, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Donald E. Baugh Sr. and Keith Baugh (devoted) of Petersburg, Va.; a very caring and devoted nephew, Mike Baugh; a devoted goddaughter, Christa Baugh; a host of other nieces and nephews, including devoted nieces, Wendy E. Crump (William) and Carolyn Claiborne; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. In addition, he leaves to cherish his memories: Burnie Branch, Mr. and Mrs. John Graves, Ophelia Jackson and family, Eunice Baugh, Junius Spratley and the Westview community.

A special thanks to the ICU Staff at Southside Regional Medical Center.

Services for Mr. Clifton B. Spriggs will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1021 Halifax St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Lamont A. Hobbs, pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at 923 Augusta Ave., Petersburg, Va., and may be contacted by calling 804-733-1104.
