Sherman Mason Obituary

Our hearts were saddened Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, when Mr. Sherman J. Mason Sr., of 24520 Sawmill Road, Carson, entered into eternal rest at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Homer C. and Mattie T. Mason of Carson. He was a faithful member of Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Alice P. Mason and a daughter, Allison Talley (Darryl), all of Carson; two sons, Sherman Mason Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Md. and Ryan Mason of Carson; two grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Brittany and Javon, both of Carson; two sisters, Novelia Mason of Roosevelt, N.Y. and Mattie Stevens of Queens, N.Y.; three brothers, Alphonzo Mason and Homer Mason Jr, both of Carson, and Joseph Mason of Mt. Holly, N.J.; two sisters-in-law, Eva Moore (Aubria) of Carson and Helen Graham of Petersburg; two brothers-in-law, Cornelius Preston Parham of Petersburg and Stanley Parham (Eva) of Dinwiddie; a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly, to include Adriane Piercy and Reginald Mason (Sonya), both of Carson; numerous cousins; other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held Thursday Oct. 18, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson, with the pastor, Rev. D. Tyrone Brandon Sr., officiating. Burial will commence at Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence and will assemble there at 10:15 a.m. on the morning of the service.

Public viewing for Mr. Mason will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today at the Shirley P. Johnson Funeral Home, 451 Halifax St., Petersburg, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 478-4411.

Mason Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We were sadden to hear of Sherman's passing:

May His (God's) hand be on your shoulder
Through these trying hours and days,
His guiding light surround you as you
tread these shadowed ways.

May you know His warmth as sadness
Breaks its cold wave on your shore;
May you feel His love enfold you
With a faith sound and secure.

May His presence close beside you
Give you strength to carry on,
Trusting in His tender promise
Of a new and brighter dawn.

With our deepest sympathy,
Melvin, Robin, Mia, Timeka and Brea
