Howard Tucker Jr.

TUCKER, JR., HOWARD F. 92, a lifelong Glocester resident, passed away at home Saturday January 16, 2016. He was the husband of the late Ann L. (Grueser) Tucker. Born in Harmony, he was a son of the late Howard F. and Althea P. (Thurber) Tucker. Mr. Tucker worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years, he was appointed Postmaster of the Chepachet office in 1966 and retired in 1988. Prior to his postal service, he was a mechanic for the former United Electrical Railway Co., a machinist for 17 years at the former Linden Mfg. Co. and was a lifelong farmer. He proudly served his country in the US Army 11th Armored Infantry during WWII. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, the European Campaign Medal with 3 battle stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was a Past President of the Woonsocket NARFE Chapter from 1996-2002. He was a life member of the DAV, a life member of the Scituate American Legion Post and past member of the Harmony Fire Dept. Mr. Tucker was also very active in Glocester politics. He was the beloved father of Howard F. Tucker, III of Harmony, Beth Mahan-Duclos of North Providence and Marjorie A. Tucker of Harmony. He was the brother of Doris Tucker of Greenville and the late Marjorie Inman. Grandfather of Michael Mahan, and his wife Megan, Megan Duclos, Tucker Duclos and Jesse Tucker; great-grandfather of Matthew Mahan. His funeral will be held Wednesday January 20, 2016 at 10am in the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rt. 44) Greenville. Burial with military honors will be in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm.
