George Martin

George Martin George Martin of Westampton, N.J., formerly of Fayetteville, died on July 20, 2013 at the age of 80. Beloved long-time husband of the late Shirley Martin (nee Bietsch), and devoted father to Kathy (Wayne) Ross of Lindenwold, N.J.; George John Martin, III of Atlantic City, N.J.; and Timothy Douglas (Kristi) of Minneola, Fla. He was also loving grandfather to Shaun Ross; Rebecca, Penny, Sara and Thomas Martin and Larkin Martin. Also great-grandfather to four. George grew up in Chambersburg and after graduating from Dickinson College, married his high school sweetheart Shirley Bietsch. They were married for 54 years, before Shirley passed away in 2009. George retired after a successful career with General Motors. He loved baseball and was a star pitcher for the Buchanan Braves and Chambersburg High School, played softball on community leagues well into his 50s, and was one of the Philadelphia Phillies' biggest fans. He was also a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, and loved to play golf. A private family viewing will be held in New Jersey. Friends are welcome to join the family for Interment at the Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013.
