ROCK ISLAND-William J. Pannier III, 80, of Friendship Manor in Rock Island, formerly of Cordova, IL, died Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Silver Cross Health and Rehabilitation, Rock Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Albany, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the church prior to Mass. Burial will be in the Cordova Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Albany, or St. Joseph's Indian School.
William was born July 28, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of George and Catherine Estelle (Dugan) Pannier. On January 21, 1961, he married Julia Stratton in Rapids City, IL. He graduated from Knox College in 1962 and the University of California Berkeley Law School in 1965. Following his graduation, he worked first as a prosecutor and then as an administrative law judge for the National Labor Relations Board, retiring on January 3, 2003. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed gardening, following the Pennsylvania sports teams, and was an avid model railroad builder.
William is survived by his children, Bruce (Oksana) Pannier, Prague, Czech Republic; Richard Pannier, Seoul, South Korea; Robert (Lori) Pannier, Davenport, IA; sister, Martha DeFord, California; brother-in-law, James Stratton (Connie), Cordova, IL; granddaughters, Ashley (Nathan) Sullivan and Amber, Kristina, and Alicia Pannier; and great grandchildren, Dominic, Kateryna, Arizona, and Anastasia Sullivan. He was preceded in death by both parents and his wife, Julia.
