Carl Hagen Obituary

HOT SPRINGS - Carl "Duane" Hagen, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 80, of Hot Springs, SD, went to be with the Lord on March 28th, 2007, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, surrounded by his loving family. Duane was born in Hot Springs on July 22, 1926, to Carl and Mildred Hagen. His education began at Martin Valley Rural School in Custer County. He continued his schooling in Hot Springs, and graduated from high school in May of 1944. Upon graduation, Duane enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific on a troop transport during World War II. He was discharged in May 1946 and returned to Hot Springs, where he was employed at the VA Medical Center. On January 25, 1948, he married Lois Mae Clark. To this union, two daughters, LoisJune and DuAnn were born. In September 1950, he was called back to the Navy to serve in the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan. After his tour of duty, he returned to Hot Springs and his employment at the VA Medical Center. He retired from the VA Medical Center in July 1981 after 35 years. After his retirement, he and Lois spent many winters in Arizona. In his later years, Duane lovingly cared for his wife, who suffered with Alzheimer's disease. Duane was an active member of the United Churches, Lions Club Chorus, a 50 year + member of the Hot Springs Lions Club, member of the Elks, Legion and VFW Clubs, Senior Citizens, NARFE and AARP. For many years, he served on the Board of Directors for the Miss South Dakota Pageant. Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his parents, Carl and Mildred Hagen and brother, Darrel (D.D.) Hagen. He is survived by his daughter, DuAnn Emanuel and son-in-law, Richard of Cheyenne, Wyoming; daughter, LoisJune Holmes and son-in-law, Bill of Chandler, Arizona; grandsons, Jason Holmes, wife Andrea and infant great-grandson, Cayden of Gilbert, Arizona and Jeremy Holmes and wife, Kristi, also of Gilbert, Arizona; sister, Evalyn Miller of Gering, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Daryle Willmott of Marshalltown, Iowa, sister-in-law, Delores Clark of Enderlin, North Dakota, and sister-in-law, Pat Clark of Sun City, Arizona; and several cousins as well as nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service, which will start at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31st, 2007, at McColley's Chapels of the Hills, with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Duane's name may be sent to: The United Churches, 350 North Garden Street, Hot Springs, South Dakota 57747. I m sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was the last surviving male of the Hagen's in Hot Springs. I always tried to get over to the retirement center and visit whenever I was home. Best to you and your families. Ted and Jan Hagen
