James McDaniel Obituary

PIERRE - James Stuart McDaniel, 67, Pierre, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at his home. Jim was born Dec. 26, 1941, to F. Stuart and Irene McDaniel in Pierre and graduated from Blunt High School in 1959. He graduated from Black Hills State University in 1963 and in July of that year was married to Phyllis Robbins. Jim was employed by Beneficial Finance Company in Rapid City for two years and started working at the Dakota State Bank in Blunt in 1965. In 1967, he purchased controlling interest in the Dakota State Bank & Insurance Agency where he remained until his retirement in 1988. He then moved to the shores of Lake Sharpe where he has resided since. He also has a home in Islamorada, Fla., and has spent over 20 years as a winter resident in the Florida Keys. He always said, "heaven is a little closer in a home by the water." Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Phyllis, his son, Mike and wife Linda of Sioux Falls, his son Cody of Little Rock, Ark., grandson Stuart and wife Whitney of Watford City, N.D., granddaughter Amber of Grand Forks, N.D., granddaughter Lauren of Little Rock, Ark., and sister Frances and husband Phil Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Minn. At his request, he will be cremated. There will be no funeral service and a private family service will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
