Fred Papandrea

Fred Papandrea, age 100, of Southport, NC, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in San Giovanni di Gerace, Italy, on June 11, 1922, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria Papandrea. He was a loving husband to Albina Barillaro Papandrea. Fred served in the Italian Airforce during World War II and later became an Argentinian citizen in hopes of immigrating to the United States. In 1953, his dream came true when he moved to America. He worked at International Silver Company and later at the Meriden Board of Education, where he made lifelong friends. Fred emphasized the importance of education to his children and lived a life of service, volunteering at his church, helping others, and sharing from his garden. His generous nature and positive attitude drew others to him. Family and friends are invited to a Mass at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451, on June 10 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden.
