Patricia Hergott Obituary

Patricia Ann (Malone) Hergott, 90, wife of 64 years to the late Dr. G. Allen Hergott, departed on Saturday, May 20, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Mary (O'Brien) and Laurence Malone.

Pat was born on July 17, 1932, in Salt Point, New York, where her love of all animals, especially dogs and cows, flourished. She moved to Meriden, at age 11, settling into city life after being on a farm. This was when her mother returned to work and her beloved grandmother Barsie took over, raising her and her brothers (aka chums).

As a clarinet player in the Meriden High School band, Pat was intrigued by a trumpeter with graying hair who became the love of her life - Allen. After graduating from Meriden High School, she attended and graduated from St. Raphael's School of Nursing. In 1956 they married and spent several years in Bainbridge, Maryland and Brooklyn, New York, while Allen was in the Navy, and she established her distinguished nursing career. Back to Meriden was their next move where they raised their six children while she worked various nursing positions including operating rooms, private duty, Meriden VNA, and a school and clinic nurse for the Meriden Health Department.

Pat was 'Hostess with the Mostest' and a friend to all. She was always entertaining and hosting friends and family at various functions, holiday parties, and Rotary exchange students in addition to her children's countless pals. She was involved in Girl Scouts, Girls Club, St. Mary's School and Church, St. Elizabeth Society, Charity Club, Curtis Home, Meriden Council of Catholic Women, several Nursing Associations, and many other organizations. Once retired she volunteered at MidState Medical Center, was a Buddy Reader at Ben Franklin and spent hours at the Franciscan's Collaborative Care.

Pat was very proud of her Irish heritage and traveled to Ireland where she kissed the Blarney Stone. She loved ice cream, lobster, a cold Coors light on the beach and her vacations on the Connecticut shore (especially Westbrook), Lake Winnipesaukee, Martha's Vineyard and Biddeford Pool, Maine.

Pat's greatest joy was her family and she found these words to be oh so true "Children are the rainbow of life, Grandchildren are the pot of gold". Each of her children was a special gift to her and she adored each and every one of her 14 grandchildren.

Pat's immediate family includes son David, his wife Teri, his children Hayley and Daniel, daughter Beth Devine, her husband Mike, their children Megan Kessler and her husband Grant, Michael and Matthew, daughter Cathy Woodworth, her children Chelsea and Alex, son Paul, his wife Robin and their children Christopher and Jillian, daughter Suzy Velez, her husband Bill and their children Luke, Emma and Grace and son PT, his wife Sandy and their children Olivia and Charlie. She also leaves behind her brother Michael Malone of Windsor Locks. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews and her dear friends Sheila, Lorraine, and Gail. Pat was predeceased by her brother Laurence Malone.

Pat's family would like to thank everyone at the Village at Kensington Place for the outstanding care they provided her. They would also like to send a special thank you to Colleen Fitzgerald at the Franciscan Home Care and Hospice for the exceptional care she provided Pat.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 (TODAY), from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Pat was a friendly, kind, wonderful person, always with that beautiful smile. My wife Millie and I had the pleasure many years ago to visit Ireland with Pat and Allen on the now famous "Eddie, Jette and Eddie" Tour with many other friends. It was a memorable trip, and yes, Pat did kiss the Blarney Stone!
My deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers go out to the Hergott and Malone families, may Pat`s Soul rest in Gods eternal peace!
