John Hernandez

1969 - 2018

John Hernandez, a lifelong resident of Porterville and the Tule River Indian Tribe passed away September 2, 2018 in Visalia after losing his battle with cancer. John was born May 12, 1969 in Lindsay, CA to Ruben Hernandez and Charlotte Ruiz and was a member of the Springville 4H Club and played both baseball and football for Pioneer Middle School. John worked for many years for the Tribe and Eagle Mountain Casino; he held many positions including Pit Boss , Surveillance Supervisor, and Card Dealer also Natural Resources. John really enjoyed being with his family and friends and could usually be found behind the BBQ grill. He liked country music , dancing and camping but his ultimate favorite thing to do was to go fishing and spend time with Tammy and his kids. He was very friendly and touched a lot of lives and will be remembered for his playful teasing nature and the famous "Hernandez smirk" which made him truly , "one of a kind". He was preceded in death by his father Ruben Hernandez Sr. in 2016, his aunt Della Beltran in 2018 and his nephew Lupe Hernandez in 2002, Brother Johnny Hernandez in 2014.
Surviving family include his wife Tammy Hernandez, Mother and step father Charlotte & Jose Ruiz. Sons: Justin Hernandez and Jonathan Hernandez. 5 daughters: Ashlyn Hernandez, Brittany Hernandez, Nyah Hernandez, Mariah Hernandez, Jazmyn Hernandez. Brothers: Ruben Hernandez Jr., Lupe Hernandez Sr. and David Hernandez Sr. and sister Kathy Salas along with 3 granddaughters. Visitation will begin at 3:30 pm Friday September 7, 2018 at Porterville Funeral & Cremation Center followed by a Funeral Service at 4:30 pm.
