Gertrude Whitmore Obituary

Trudy Whitmore, 93, of Walden, died on Thursday, April 20, 2006 after a brief illness, at the Clifton Nursing Center in Somerset, Mass., surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of Mary and William H. Morgan, she was born August 27, 1912 in Cohoes, N.Y.

She graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy, N.Y., and Albany State Teacher's College, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. She was a dedicated teacher of World History for many years at Valley Central High School in Montgomery, N.Y., where she was also advisor to the Gradus Honoris, the National Honor Society, and active in the Scholarship Council, organizing the annual Antique and Art Show fundraiser.

She was a member of Most Precious Blood Parish, Walden.

Following her retirement in 1972, she and her husband spent much of their time traveling, visiting countries on every major continent. She enjoyed collecting pewter, gardening, baking, and sewing.

She is remembered by her family and friends for her energy and enthusiasm for life, her unwavering faith, ever-present smile, courage, and strength.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Roscoe; her parents; sisters, Mildred Luis and Gladys Fagan; and brothers: William, Frank, and Andrew Morgan.

She is survived by daughter, Cathleen and husband, Richard Svenson, of Delmar, N.Y.; son, David and wife, Lisa Whitmore, of Maybrook; brothers, Philip Morgan of Latham, N.Y., and Donald Morgan of Clifton Park, N.Y.; cherished grandchildren: Amy and Gregory Whitmore, Sarah Greer, Kate and Abby Svenson; many nieces and nephews, especially beloved were Marianne Lubenow and husband, Warren, and Stephen Whitmore and wife, Mary Ellen.

Visitation will be Monday, April 24 from 5-8 p.m. at The Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, N.Y.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Church, Walnut St., Walden, with Fr. Kenneth Loughman officiating. Burial will be in Wallkill Valley Cemetery in Walden.

Memorial contributions may be made to Most Precious Blood Church, Walden, NY 12586.

Arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors.
