Donald Hislop Obituary

Donald Hislop

On May 2, 2014, our beloved father and husband, Donald Hislop, went to be with the Lord.

Born in Vancouver, Canada, he came to the U.S. as a youngster and lived almost his entire life in Northern CA. Don was a graduate of Chico State, but he also furthered his education at the University of San Francisco and Pepperdine University. His education amassed to a Masters in History, a Secondary California Teaching Credential, and quite a bit of classwork toward his PhD. Don was a historian, high school teacher, a community college instructor, a Girl Scout leader, a church camp director, a praise band member, and a certified lay pastor.

He reached people of all types and ages through his knowledge and, most of all, through his empathy and caring.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kare Hislop, and his daughters Victoria Hislop and Laurel Thome.

He is dearly missed and deeply loved.

Please join us in a celebration of his life at 6:00 pm on May 16th, 2014 at the First Church of God in Red Bluff.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the General Fund are being accepted at the First United Methodist Church of Red Bluff.

Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

Mr. Hislop was a great man and a great teacher. I had the privilege of being taught by him for two years in high school. Many of the lessons he taught (both historical and anecdotal) have carried with me for the past 18 years. He was a great teacher and our community lost a great man.

Fair Winds and Following Seas Mr. Hislop, you will be missed dearly!

At the age of 58, I still recall Mr. Hislop as one of my kindest teachers, and one who gained the respect of his students. A Role Model. My sincere condolences to his family.
