FUNERAL HOME

Wendell Jones Obituary

Wendell J. Jones, born and raised in Emerson, will be laid to rest along with his late wife, Joan (Kendall) on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Emerson Cemetery. Wendell passed away Sept. 14, 2020, at the age of 92 in Downers Grove Ill., his home since 1969.
Wendell spent his boyhood enjoying and working on the family farm along with his siblings and parents, the late Juanita (Ronk) and Paul Jones. Wendell left the farm to study and ultimately work as a Quality Control Engineer in Des Moines. During this time, he also met Joan, an RN from Marshalltown. After marrying in 1954, Wendell and Joan moved to San Diego where they worked and raised their children while enjoying the idyllic California life and being active at St. Mark's Methodist Church. They returned to the Midwest in 1969 where they both continued their careers and raising their children until Wendell's retirement in 1983.
They spent their golden years enjoying their many passions (Wendell - gardening, woodworking, hanging out at a local airport working on his plane; and Joan - music, reading, jewelry work, knitting) and spending time with and visiting their large family.
Wendell and Joan are the loving parents of Dennis (Julie Swendsen), Janet (the late John Dallman), Steven, Marilyn (James Stoessel), William (Paulina) and Robert Jones; cherished grandparents of seven and great-grandparents of seven. Wendell is the dear brother/brother-in-law of Alys Kay (Chuck) Traw, Marilyn (the late Eugene) Lang and the late Delaine Jones.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Doris (Rinden) Kendall and is the dear sister/sister-in-law of the late Pixie (the late William) Lage and the late Dave (Shirley) Kendall.
A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
