Frances Sugg Obituary

Frances Sugg

WILMINGTON - Frances Sugg, 85, of Wilmington went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 12, 2018 at Wilmington Health & Rehab.

She was born on June 27, 1933 in Tabor City, NC to Gurlie and Gola Sarvis. She spent her childhood in Tabor City, graduated from Tabor City High School and fell in love with and married her husband Johnnie "Jack" Sugg. Together they raised a family of four children in the Ayden area. After moving to Ayden, Frances took over the family business, Sugg Florist, and work there until 1973. At that point in her life, she changed careers and became a District Manager for Avon, where she excelled in sales and had the ability to travel all over this great world with the company.

Frances was a member of Seaside Baptist Church in Carolina Beach but was known to attend church at Wilmington Health & Rehab, where she volunteered to play the piano on a regular basis. The piano was not the only instrument she played. Her love of music and her natural God given talent led her to be self- taught on numerous instruments. While in Ayden, she was the organist for Ayden First Baptist Church for many years. She loved people, socializing and excelling at all that she did. Mrs. Frances had no limits and enjoyed being active in Eastern Star, Pocahontas, Who's Who in Women, Ayden Chamber of Commerce, where she was many years ago inducted as the first female president, and the Circle of Excellence, where she held the highest level of sales as a DM for the Avon Company nationwide. In her spare time she loved crafting, painting and writing music and poetry. She had too many talents to mention. Frances was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and was loved by so many. She never met a stranger and enjoyed visits with everyone she knew.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie "Jack" Sugg; both of her parents; five brothers, Carl, Bruce, Vernon, S.G. and Paul Sarvis, as well as a son-in-law, Thomas "Tee" Sledge.

She is survived by her three daughters, Sandy Mitchell and husband Charles Sr., of Grifton, Susie Trimpe and husband, Roger, of IN, Jackie Sledge and husband Eddie Coggin, of Wilmington; one son, Chris Sugg and wife, Karen of Rocky Point, NC. She also leaves behind four precious grandchildren, Charles "Scooter" Mitchell Jr. and wife, Jessica, Travis Trimpe, Kacie Sledge and Jack Sledge; four great grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1-2 at Farmer Funeral Service and other times at the home of her daughter, Sandy and Charles Mitchell Jr., 5843 Marvin Taylor Rd., Grifton, NC The Funeral will follow the service at 2:00pm in the chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Estates in Grifton. You may send online condolences to Farmerfuneralservice.com

I am so sorry to hear of Ms. Frances' passing. I met her while my mother was a resident at Wilmington Health and Rehab. She was a delightful person and I always enjoyed hearing her play the piano during the church services. What a gift she had! I actually have a short video of her playing during one of my visits to WH&R. I will cherish it. Again, I am truly sorry for your loss...may you gain comfort in knowing that one day there will be a great reunion.

So very sorry for your loss. I am first cousin to Jack and Al. So remember when we were children the entire family coming often to Penderlea and we would play well after dark. Aunt Adell would get on all of us in a minute. She was a character. I used to love to go to Ayden also.
Prayers to the entire family.

My condolences to Frances' Family. I have many sweet memories of Frances, she was a dear friend to my mom and our family. Frances directed my wedding, provided the flowers and played the organ. I loved her dearly and thought she was the most talented person I have ever known. God's blessings to the family.
