Arnold Pitman Obituary

CANTON - Arnold Louis Pitman, 70, Canton, died Sept. 18, 2014, after a brief hospitalization.
Arnold was the son of Otis and Elizabeth (Robinson) Pitman of Heath Springs, South Carolina, where he was raised. He spent his early adulthood in Southern California, where he met his wife of 47 years, Yancy (Seago) Pitman of Midland, Texas, before moving to Odessa, Texas, with his wife and daughters, Molly (Pitman) Ogden of Freeport, Maine, and Lynette (Pitman) Silva of Clinton, Massachussetts.
Always with a twinkle in his eye, Arnold lived a life of integrity, kindness, and care and concern for all. A dedicated and hard worker all his life, Arnold most loved the role he found at his daughter's junior high Christmas Orchestra concert - playing Santa Claus.
He would become Santa Claus every year for the next 30 years, delighting all with his own child-like spirit and enjoyment of the true spirit of Christmas - sharing the precious gift of the love of Jesus Christ with the young and the young at heart. He most enjoyed his volunteer work at the Crittenton Center for Children in Peoria and his annual appearances at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, also in Peoria.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Yancy; daughter, Molly and her husband Mitch Ogden, daughter Lynette and her husband Paul Silva; his brother, Ellis and his wife Sarah (Franks) Pitman of San Juan Capistrano, California; his sister Carolyn Johnson and her husband Cecil of Lancaster, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Joseph Ogden and David Ogden of Freeport, Maine; and several beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of life service will be at Temple Baptist Church, 10 Van Dyke Drive, Canton, on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

So sorry to hear of your lost Mrs. Clause and family! Our hearts are heavy for your loss of such a wonderful man! Our yearly visits with you two for our Christams photo always made Christmas come alive for me! Your kindness and gentle nature! Our youngest was born on the 13th of Dec, 2006. I have the most precious 1st picture with Santa with him tucked in Mr Putman's full white beard at just a few days old! Our hearts are with you all! Much love!

We looked forward to seeing Santa every year. He was so good with my children over the years. I never learned his real name but he somehow always remembered my family and what a big Bear's fan my son is. He was truly a special man and he will be missed.

I want to be there today for the service, but ahhh my busy kids! I am so saddened by Arnolds passing, I can't even tell my kids. I will eventually explain that he was needed at the North Pole indefinitely! My 3 kids met Arnold and Yancy at CSC when he drove her all the way to work when she had hurt her foot and she couldn't walk. My kids went to the daycare, and we all arrived about the same time each morning. It didn't take long, and we fell in love with both of you! My son told Yancy one time he knew why she drove a RED SUV, she asked why, and he said, of course, if the sleigh isn't working Santa can drive her car! The kids always knew Santa was undercover working in midwest IL, and thought it was awesome to know the real Santa! You both have been so kind and sweet to everyone and the lives you have touched are likely too many to count. I can only strive to be as sweet and generous as the two of you. I will miss you Arnold, and Yancy I hope to see you soon! Love always

We are so sorry to hear of Mr. Pitmans passing. A tradition our family looked forward to and enjoyed so much, will never be the same. For a number of years now, we have attended the lighting of the tree at Grand Prairie and waited for Mr. & Mrs. Claus to arrive in the horse and carriage. He was so sweet and so good with the kids. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you, it was heartbreaking news to hear. He will be greatly missed.

Our hearts were broken when we read of Arnold's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Yancy, Molly, Lynette and family. Arnold was our Santa every day. All my grandchildren loved when Santa came to my house on Christmas eve. The first time my youngest granddaughter (who is now 22 and has her own little girl) first saw "Santa" she was so excited that she just set on the lap of the "Real" Santa. From then on he was "her" Santa. I have many, many happy memories and stories of Arnold and Yancy while they were here in Texas. My consolences to you during this most difficult time. Love you all. God Bless You.

Dear Yancey and family,

We were so saddened to learn of Arnold's passing. You were both such a wonderful host and hostess last time we saw you. You both were the ideal Mr and Mrs Claus. Rather rare, I think. We pray that God will give you His peace and comfort as you continue your path without him, until you are united again with our Lord and Savior in glory.

Dear Yancey and Family, Ellis and Frankie,
It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Arnold so soon after his stroke. You were all so special to me back at Crescent Ave. Baptist Church in the late 60's and when I went to CBC, Yancey took me to her hairdresser and got a new hairstyle for me. I am sad to think that Yancey is without Arnold now but I pray that you will relive the many happy memories you must have and continue to trust in the strength of the Lord. Kathy Laizure Eide.

Dear Yancy, Mitch, Molly, Joseph & David, Lynette and Paul. Arnold was a joy to know. He portrayed Santa like no other person. He lived it all year long. He so loved the children. He will be missed by many and that includes us. It helps to know we will meet again in heaven someday but meanwhile we will have our memories. Love you all.
