David Chandler Obituary

David Truman Chandler

1947 - 2014

David Truman Chandler, 66, of Eugene, Oregon, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2014, with his wife at his bedside. He fought a long battle against Parkinson's disease and Lewy Body Dementia.

David was born on November, 4, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, to Barbara and George T. Chandler, the second of four children. He lived in Pratt, Kansas, most of his life. David graduated from Fountain Valley High School in Colorado Springs in 1965, served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1972, attended Pratt Community College and Kansas State University, and graduated from Wichita State University in 1975 with a BA in accounting. He joined his father in banking in 1976 and was President of the First National Bank in Pratt from 1986-2002 and CEO from 2002-2008.

David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Michele, son Bob and daughter-in-law Stephanie, grandchildren Blake and Sydney, brother Paul and sister-in-law Nilda, sister Barbara, uncle Anderson, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. His parents, son Brian, and older brother Throck, preceded him in death.

David had a generous heart, loved life, and leaves a legacy of love for all who knew him. His hobbies included electronics, coin collecting, bird hunting, and computers. His collection of golden oldies records was one of his prized possessions and they were the center of many parties. He also enjoyed good scotch.

Special thank yous to the staff at Farmington Square and to Sacred Heart Hospice for their loving care.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 19th, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art in Eugene, Oregon.

To honor David's life, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Parkinson's Foundation, Hospice of Sacred Heart, or The Kansas Society for Children with Challenges.

I knew David and his family on the late 70's to early 80's, when I was Brian's babysitter. Their family was full of life and I learned so much from them. I am so sorry for their losses and will keep them all in my prayers.

David was one of the most patient, kind, and generous people I have ever known. He would spend many hours and often weeks in advance picking the most perfect individualized gifts for his wife and family at Barrier's Jewelers. He was truly a treasure among men and I feel honored to have assisted him in his many choices and projects. Jim Croy formerly of Barrier's Jewelers, Wichita, KS.

David's enthusiasm and support was largely responsible for the Pratt Children's Theatre. It was a privilege to know him.

I enjoyed working with Dave at the First National Bank of Pratt. I was part of CTA, Inc. out of Wichita, Ks. that maintained the bank's phone system. I felt privileged when he requested that I install a system at his home. Always enjoyed visiting with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace Dave.
