Former Springfield resident Richard Rohr, 64, passed away Monday, December 8, 2014 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna Alaska from complications of CIDP and Parkinson's disease.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 20, at Birch Ridge Community Church.

Richard was born March 17, 1950 in Fresno, CA. Richard worked for Patterson Dental and Burkhart Dental. He moved to Alaska after retiring in 2006.

"A gentle giant, Richard had a profound impact on the lives of many people. He was a devoted husband, a father by choice, a loving grandpa and a faithful friend. Richard was a member of Birch Ridge Community Church. In his last few weeks of life he was surrounded by friends and family."

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Adolph "Dutch" Rohr, his mother, Anne Hannah, a brother, William Rohr, and son, Brent Rohr.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Rohr; daughter, Shannon Green; grandchildren, Kody and Kiana Rohr; sisters and brother-in-law, Gayle and Frank Galli and Patti Bartucci; nieces, Erin Bartucci-Dwyer, Jenni Harrison and Sarah Hoevet; nephews, Bryan Bartucci, Jeff Molnar, James Monson and Patrick Barnett; daughter-in-law, Meagan Rohr.

Memorial donations may be given in remembrance of Richard to Love I.N.C., P.O. Box 3052, Kenai, AK 99611.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.

I only just now stumbled upon this sad news. Richard and Leslie knew several of us in Medford, OR early 80's or so. I remember especially one snowmobile play day near Eagle Point (?). It was Ray Brees, Gary Derise and I believe Lou & Lorna Perkins and their son, Eddie. Long story short, there was a collision with a tree and nurse Leslie saved the day. Richard was a gentle giant, full of fun. I am sure the family misses him greatly.

Mary and I knew Rich and Leslie from early 1980's as nearly next door neigbors till they left for Alaska in 2006. He loved his parrots and the Caribean Islands. We traveled to Jamaica and to New Orleans together. We sorely miss Rich and his Big heart.

I knew Richard during his time in the Dental Industry in Oregon for many years. I can remember many fun days of cotraveling with Rich in his territory with Patterson Dental in the Eugene area. Some of my fondest memories were when he organized "road shows" where he would organize evening programs for dentists in small towns for groups of manufacturers reps like me. We would often do a fishing trip at the end of the show and had some great times. You will be missed, Rich!

Richard and I worked together at Patterson Dental and kept in touch through FB. He shhared my passion for photography and loved mt photos. I will remember him for his laughter, fun spirit and love of his family and friends. He called me a couple of weeks before he died, to say goodbye and we cried and laughed together...a blessing for those of us left on Earth. Richie, I will think of you every time I take a photo of this glorious world we live in and will dedicate to you! Keep looking down from Heaven and we feel your love! RIP, my friend!
