Guy Russo Obituary

Guy P. Russo
Guy Patrick Russo, born March 17, 1955, passed away on July 13, 2025 at 70 years old after a two year battle with cancer. Guy was a devoted husband, father, and friend who was passionately dedicated to his family and community. A devout Catholic, Guy was a man of God who believed in the values of inclusivity, kindness, and love, and he is known by many as a mentor, advisor, and confidante. Guy leaves behind his wife (Patricia), his three children and their partners (Gabriel and Allison, Miriah and Michael Kelly and Colby and Lejon Bailey), his five grandchildren (Gianna, Adeline, Stella (Kelly), Stephen, and Dakari (Bailey), and numerous family members and friends. Born and raised in Middletown, CT as a second-generation Italian American, Guy was proud of his local roots and Italian American heritage. His parents Albina (Badiali) Russo and Edward Russo [both deceased] raised Guy and his five siblings (Rex, Rosemary (Dennis), Eugene, Edward [deceased], and Regina (Schoffstall) in Middletown alongside their extended family and many friends. Guy was a devout Catholic and remained so through to his last breath. He attended church most every Sunday and supported many in growing their Christian faiths. As a Justice of the Peace, Guy married several couples over the years and was a person that so many have looked to for leadership and hope, especially in times of great joy and deep sadness. Guy attended Xavier High School where his academic and social savvy flourished. Whether it was starring in the school play as Little Abner, doing the butterfly stoke on the swim team, or fixing cars with the automotive club, in his high school years he cultivated a sensibility about life that was grounded in an ethic of caring for others. This extended through to his time with the Boy Scouts and eventually becoming a respected Boy Scout leader. Guy was dedicated to education, and he believed in the power of knowledge to positively shape the future. Following high school Guy attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut (1973-1977) with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry with a minor in English. Later he attended graduate school at Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute (1982) where he earned a degree in Environmental Engineering. For many years he also served as an adjunct Professor at Gateway community college teaching water management courses. In 1978 Guy married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Lowry), and they have just celebrated their 47rd wedding anniversary on June 23, 2025. True soul mates, Guy and Patricia are a model married couple who stayed committed to each other, through life's trials, through to the very end. Together they grew to a beautiful family of five with their children Gabriel, Miriah (Kelly) and Colby -- and built a beautiful life in Middletown. Over the years Guy enjoyed travelling with his family, cooking Sunday dinners, and showing up to every important life event for anyone in his circle. Guy cared deeply about the environment and worked in many capacities to support sustainable resource management throughout his career. First in waste management for the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority and then later growing into a water career at the City of Middletown. Guy served for 22 years as the Director of Water and Sewer in the city until his retirement in 2018. Guy then served as a Principal Consultant with Prime Engineering until his diagnosis in 2022. Guy was a hard worker, community volunteer, and a true man of his word. If he wasn't working on one of his many projects around the passive solar house that he designed and built in Middletown, you would probably find him doing projects at someone else's house. He could fix nearly anything, often showing others his methods and techniques in hopes they would learn his ways. His last project and piece-de-resistance is the beautiful coastal home in Waterford he renovated and moved into with his family in 2022. Guy loved golf, music, and the beach, though most of all, he loved spending time with his five grandchildren Gianna, Adeline, Stella (Kelly), Stephen, and Dakari (Bailey). In his free time, he would be spending his days at the beach with the kids, jamming out on the keyboard with his bandmates, or at the course playing a round of golf with his friends. He genuinely loved being outdoors and spending time in nature whether it was running, camping, fishing, boating or hiking. Sensitive and kind, Guy was the one many turned to for advice and guidance, and his presence on this Earth will be greatly missed. In his final days Guy wished for peace and prosperity for all. In his memory, may we all lead with kindness and conclude with love. His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday (July 23rd) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, on Tuesday (July 22nd) from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Water for People. So sad and shocked to hear of Guy´s passing! He lived two houses up from me on Arbutus St. We all had lots of fun growing up together. We rode our bikes together, played kickball, and wiffle ball in the fields behind our homes. Made tunnels and forts out of big bales of hay. Played hide and seek in the corn fields just to mention a few! I was always a bit of a tomboy so when the guys decided to play "touch" football, I was all in!! Anyway, this " touch " football ended in me breaking my wrist with a full-blown tackle from Guy with help from Gary G! Lol needless to say my touch football days were over. So many fun memories!
Guy was very grounded and wise for his age! Was the go to to ask for advice. He would just make everything seem OK.
When we were approximately 14, he decided to start a band and asked me to be the lead vocalist. I was rather shy and didn´t want to get up in front of people but he assured me that I´d be great and had nothing to worry about. I honestly believe that if he didn´t encourage me, I would have never pursued my vocal career when time arose! Thank you Guy for believing in me!!!
Years later performing on stage when I would see him and Patty at some of these galas right in the front row and many times at our table, with that larger than life infectious smile on his face! It warmed my heart. It felt a little bit like home again.
Maybe someday we can perform together in presence of our Savior. That would be Amazing!! Thank you for being my friend Guy! So grateful God made our paths cross in this life! I will Never forget you! Till we meet again dear man!
To Patty and family I am truly sorry for your loss !

Guy was one of the best people I have ever known. He originally was a client, then coworker, but I always considered him a friend. He truly represented all that was good in this world. He was a treasure and will be missed dearly. My condolences to Pat and the Russo family.

My sincerest condolences to Pat and the entire Russo family on the loss of Guy. I cannot express in words how much Guy meant to me from the time we shared professionally at PRIME AE and when he worked as the Director of the City of Middletown Water & Sewer Dept. As I mentioned in a previous message at his passing, he was a great man with a great soul. Guy hired me at PRIME and provided me an opportunity in the Civil Engineering field. I felt he was an Angel at that very moment. He was always willing to help people, cared for his friends and family and was a true gift to this world. He was one of the smartest men I knew, I could ask him any question, and he would almost always have the correct advice or solution. I now realize he has been that way his entire life as evidence of all the kind words others who knew him shared through his passing. As you know, he was an extraordinary, personable, intelligent & knowledgeable man, with a huge heart. I will forever hold him in my heart and will truly miss talking with him. My sincerest condolences to you and your entire family on his passing. May God Bless you and know Guy will ever be present in our hearts and watching from up above. Jeff Jenkins.

Patti,

Carol and I were devastated to hear of Guy's passing.

I worked with him in Middletown for years on various projects. He was always decent, hard-working, and knowledgeable. When Guy learned my mother was Sicilian, we had delightful discussions about meatballs, sauce, food, and family.

Carol and I will never forget when he learned Carol was a UCONN grad and he broke out into the UCONN fight song! Always smiling, always willing to help. Some talk - Guy was a living example of all that is good. Guy Russo was the genuine article.

God bless you and your family.

To the Russo Family,

Guy was more than a colleague—he was a mentor, a friend, and a guiding light to many of us. I had the privilege of knowing guy during our time at PRIME, where we had many conversations about history, trivia, music, movies, gardening, and home improvement. We had a morning trivia ritual to begin our day with knowledge and a sense of accomplishment. He often refused hints. Guy made work feel less like a job and more like a community of like-minded people.

We also spoke about leadership. He taught not just through his stories but through his actions, and his lessons continue to resonate: (1) Respect without exception - he believed every person deserved dignity, regardless of title or tenure. (2) Believe in others and when possible, remove obstacles to help them rise. (3) Make praise a practice. Guy had a unique method: he started each day with five quarters in one pocket, transferring one to the other pocket with each genuine compliment given, aiming to move all quarters by day's end. (4) Live fully in every moment, never taking time for granted.

Fresh out of college, Guy was one of my greatest supporters. My favorite memory is when he ordered two cakes from Patty Cakes to celebrate my graduation in the office. To him, it was a small gesture, but to me, it was a reminder that my achievements mattered—that someone noticed, cared, and went out of their way to make me feel seen and valued.

Guy gave tirelessly to his family, community, and profession. We will always remember his boundless energy, sharp humor, and passionate drive to leave the world better than he found it. His legacy is not just in what he taught us, but in how he lifted us, inspired us, and reminded us to lead with heart.

Thank you for sharing Guy with us.

As a young Fire officer, I asked Guy to teach me about the City´s water supply. He was amazing in his knowledge, and opened up the flood gates so to speak to teach me. Always kind, generous, and open to any question I had for him! Even though I hadn´t seen him in a couple years, 10 months ago I reached again, retired as both of us were, and he educated me on City policy once more! I won´t ever forget him, and the City lost a wealth of knowledge with his passing! Rest well my brother!

Pat and family, I was truly humbled to know Guy, even if only for a brief time while we worked across the hallway from one another. In that short period, he left an indelible mark on my life. Guy was the very embodiment of a modern-day Renaissance man, curious, thoughtful, endlessly knowledgeable, and full of heart. We shared countless conversations, about history, science, geography, culture, engineering, technology, music, pop culture, wine, family, and identity. Nothing was off-limits, and every exchange with him was rich, engaging, and meaningful. I came away from each discussion more informed, more inspired, more encouraged, and always incredibly grateful. What always stayed with me was his humanity, no matter who or what you presented him with. I credit Guy for playing a pivotal role in helping me reach where I am today in my career. His support meant the world to me. His influence, his intellect, his friendly support, and his kindness will stay with me always. I will never forget him, and I am so much better as a person for having known him even if for just a short time in my life. Requiem en pace, my friend. Until we meet again over a glass of the finest vintage!

Pattie, I want to extend my sincere sympathy to all at the passing of your beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother. I grew up on arbutus st. with Guy and have some fond memories of him. I would only see him and you occasionally but I have to say, Guy was a kind, gentle, humble man. If the world had more men like Guy, it would definitely be a more beautiful place to live. I am so sorry for all you had to go through and I shall continue to pray for you and all your precious family. We know Guy is still alive in a far superior place where love is everywhere. You will be reunited again never to part for all eternity thanks to Jesus. May God give you His perfect peace . I will be away on vacation next week and will not be in attendance for his memorial services but I will be thinking of all of you and praying for your intentions. Love, Rochelle Catalano, Carabetta

To all whose lives were graced by this great man, his family and friends, Guy was that young man I knew at Xavier High School who exemplified the heart of our motto Be A Man. It has been more than 50 years since our lives parted but I remember him fondly and appreciated his caring heart, good humor and brotherhood. As I read his obituary my eyes watered as my mind wandered to those days of our youth and the joys of his friendship. You have not lost him; he is forever in your hearts and the many whose lives were benefited and nourished by his love and strength of character. I will see you again someday my brother, by the grace of God.
