ABILENE, TX

Wanda Harris Thweatt, who made this world a better place because of her life, has moved on to her permanent home.

Wanda was born in Terry County, Texas the seventh child of Pierce and Birdie Harris on March 24,1928.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Victor, Truman, Weldon, and Temple; and sister; Birdie Lee.

She graduated from Midland High School in 1945. She married George Edward Elliott in 1946 and gave birth to Cheryl, Patricia, George Robert, and Debra Elliott. After the death of her husband, she attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary where she met and married William "Bill" Thweatt in 1959. She then gave birth to David and Candace.

After several pastorates, they moved to Abilene where she became Assistant to the Dean of Students at Hardin-Simmons University, and Bill was educated as an elementary school teacher and counselor. Wanda later worked for the Abilene Independent School District in the administration of Learning Resource Centers.

They retired in 1992 and served as short term missionaries in Albania, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, and The Philippines.

Wanda is survived by husband, Bill; sister, Lillian; six children; sixteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be at Girdner Funeral Home, 141 Elm St, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Tuesday, April 4, 2017. A memorial service will be at the atrium at Wesley Court, 2617 Antilley Rd., 1:30PM, Wednesday, April 5, 2017. (use main entrance). Burial will follow at Pendergrass Cemetery in Sidney, under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home, Abilene, Texas.

Wanda really loved flowers and any worthy ministry such as Wycliffe Bible Translators and Mercy Ships.
