Victoria Lynn Gardner, 50, passed away April 26, 2009, after a valiant four-year struggle, which began with pancreatic cancer. She was born at the Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., on Sept. 17, 1958, to Vince and Dorthy Howerton.
She grew up in California, then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Vickie married Kim Anthony Gardner in the Oakland, Calif., LDS temple in 1978. The couple moved to Kim's hometown of St. Anthony, where they joined with several partners to form a physical therapy contracting corporation. Vickie served as a physical therapy aide, as well as the first office manager for Western Physical Therapists. The couple lived in St. Anthony for two years before building their dream home on the Gardner family farm near Teton City.
Vickie graduated from the horsemanship and stable management program at Ricks College, and was selected as the Woman of the Year in the Agricultural College. She enjoyed teaching riding lessons and training horses at the outdoor arena on the Gardner ranch. The family moved to Hayward, Calif., in 1986 where Vickie completed her education as a massage therapist.
Then they moved to Orem, Utah, in 1988, where Kim continued his graduate education.
Vickie enjoyed travel, horseback riding, swimming, reading, watching movies and especially caring for her family.
She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings.
Vickie is survived by her husband, Kim of Orem; three children, Jared (Rose) Gardner of Raleigh, N.C., Krystal (Andrew) Gardner Webb of Salt Lake City and Aaron Gardner of Orem; and one grandson, Tyler Jay Gardner of North Carolina. She is also survived by her father, Vince Howerton of Portola Valley, Calif.; a brother, Wayne (Beverly) Howerton of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister, Valerie (Joe) Miller of Pacifica, Calif.; and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted on April 28, followed by internment at the Orem City Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Brian Tudor, Dr. Gary Garner, nurse Annette Nielsen and all of the staff at the Central Utah Medical Clinic (Oncology), Dr. LeGrand Belnap, Dr. Kent Thorne and staff at St. Mark's Hospital, Dr. Keith Hooker and many others at UVRMC, the caring staff of Rocky Mountain Home Health, Community Nursing Services, and First Choice Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate and excellent professional services.
