Jean Wood Obituary

Jean Wood, born January 17, 1929 in Peoria, Illinois to Clifford and Leah Orchard, passed away January 19, 2010 in Lakeport.
Jean was preceded in death by her brother Bob.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Clark of Carmel; son, Jim (Linda) Randall of Concord; son, Rex Wood of Lakeport; daughter, Cristi (Bob) English of Pollock Pines as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Jean's outgoing personality suited her well in her long career in front of the public. She spent her early year's first selling frozen foods and then non-foods to grocery stores across California and Nevada. When Jean settled in Las Vegas she was "discovered" and filmed commercials for such companies as Frito Lay and Mother's Cookies. She went on to star in her own TV show called Jean's Playhouse where she would play two MGM movies a night as well as interview a star at midnight.
In 1960 Jean moved to Lake County where she purchased and rebuilt Laurel Del Lodge, running it successfully until a flood in 1964 destroyed the restaurant, bar, and 16 cabins on the property. In 2001 due to health problems, Jean retired as the general manager of Lobos Lodge in Carmel after 20 of her proudest years as a professional.
Her retirement called her home to Lake County where she spent her last years being cared for by her youngest son, Rex.
At Jean's request, there will be no services.
Donations may be made in her name to charity of your choice. Cremation arrangements by Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary.
