John Humphrey Obituary

John (JC) Humphrey, Jr.

Feb 1, 1948

June 17,2017

John (JC) Humphrey, Jr., age 69, died on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.

JC was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 1, 1948 to Anna and John Humphrey, Sr., who preceded him in death.

John was raised in Milwaukee and his family later moved to California. After graduating from high school, he attended a community college majoring in Criminal Justice. He enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne (Screaming Eagles), Heli-borne Assault Team in the Vietnam War from 1966 through 1968 being honorably discharged in 1968. In his younger years, JC loved building and driving fast cars, riding his Harley with his brother Jesse, singing, dancing, and working as a MC in nightclubs. He worked during his lifetime as a pressman in the printing and graphics art industry both in California and then in Reno after moving here in 1981. He met his wife and soulmate, Joyce Humphrey, in 1982 and they were married on December 31, 1987. JC and Joyce loved adventures, fishing and camping, bowling, backpacking, nature, and watching movies together. They perfectly complemented and completed each other. After retirement, he enjoyed driving his hemi Challenger, gaming, loved life, being with people, and was fond of animals including his beloved Labrador Jenna. JC was much loved by the neighborhood children and became like a grandfather to many that had the fortune to live in the neighborhood.

JC is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Humphrey of Reno, son John C. Humphrey and daughter-in-law, Nancy Humphrey of California; his brother Michael Humphrey of Texas as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his brother Jesse Humphrey.

A celebration of JC's life and viewing will be held Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Walton's: Ross, Burke, & Knobel Chapel, 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno. Burial with full Military Honors by the Northern Nevada Veterans Coalition is scheduled for Friday, July 7, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.
