Alfred J. "Bubba" Souza Jr.

Alfred J. "Bubba" Souza Jr., 58, of Brooksville, Fla., died at home on Feb. 25, 2017. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Alfred J. Souza Sr. and Marilyn (Morning) Souza.
Mr. Souza was a 1976 graduate of Coventry High School, where he was co-captain of the "Oakers" football team. In 1975, they defeated the "Wizards" on Thanksgiving Day 24-8. He worked alongside his father on the family farm in West Greenwich and was a police offer in the town of West Greenwich.
He was a life-long Red Sox & Patriots Fan and enjoyed boating and fishing in Ponaug Cove.
He was a member of the first graduating class of the Air Force JROTC, proudly served as Master Sgt. in the RI Air National Guard for 23 years, and was a member of the 281st Combat Communications Squadron of Coventry, receiving many awards for his achievements before retirement in 1999.
He was a member of VFW Post #9404 of Coventry, transferring to Post #7122 in Floral City, Fla., where he served as Chaplain.
He leaves his loving siblings: Valerie Rice of Saunderstown, Cheryle A. Ihrig of Coventry, Marilyn LaRoche of West Warwick, John Souza, of Attleboro, Christopher Souza of West Warwick, and the late Linda Young. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces & nephews. He was also pre-deceased by his loyal dogs and companions "Ellie Mae" and"Freddie."
His committal service with full military honors will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter.
