A memorial service will be held on March 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Unity Center of Baltimore, Md. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully received by the SPCA or AHALA Children's Rights Foundation, P.O. Box 2866, Roanoke, VA 24001.

Dear Strickland Family,
I am so saddened by the news of Nicole's passing - I have fond memories of being in school with Nicole when we were girls, both at Fishburn Park and Madison - I remember her warm and friendly smile as she would get on the bus in the morning to face the (often very silly) middle school crew. May God, who knows the loss of a child, keep you close to His heart now and always.

I know Nicole only through her loving relationship with Aunt Kathyrn. She clearly enriched the lives of those around her..

My condolences to your entire family on the tragic loss of Nicole. I remember meeting her for the first time in a summer school program after 5th grade – her warmth, intelligence, and friendliness made her stand out. She was bubbly, fun and had a uniquely Roanoke brand of preppy fashion (lots of colorful ribbons in her hair). We were in practically every class together from then on, and remained friends throughout school. I can vividly recall middle school get togethers at the Strickland house, Nicole asking me to be her last minute date to PH's homecoming dance in 9th grade, and all of the other wonderful memories of growing up together in Roanoke. I wish you much comfort during this difficult time, and I hope you can cherish the indelible impression she left on all those she touched through the years.

I'm sincerely sorry for your loss. Nicole and I were in a few of the same classes together at Morgan. This semester she sat one desk away from me. We often consulted each other on school projects and encouraged each other when school became challenging. She always seemed upbeat and literally laughed the challenges off! She loved life and her momentum exuded that. What I will embrace from her memory is the pep that she always had in her stride. I will remember that and try to make that model my own!
