Maggie Porter Obituary

Maggie E. Porter, 89, of Elliston, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Marvin E. Porter Sr., and a daughter, Elizabeth Jane Baldree. Mrs. Porter was a devoted minister's wife for more than 40 years. She was an integral part of the ministry of each of the churches her husband served. For a number of years she was responsible for ministering to the residents at South Roanoke Nursing Home, and was a member of the Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise. Surviving are her children, the Rev. Marvin E. Porter Jr., of Stevens, Pa., David E. Porter Sr. and wife, Dolores, of Manassas, Va., E. Ron Porter and wife, Martha, of Troutville, Samuel E. Porter and wife, Liz, of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Deborah Davis and husband, Steven, of Salem; 29 grandchildren; 32 greatgrandchildren; and seven greatgreat-grandchildren; brothers, James Justice, of Adamstown, Pa., and Robert Justice, of Reynolds, Pa. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008, at the Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise, 8100 Angel Lane by the Rev. Harry Miller, the Rev. Theo Arnett and the Rev. James Walker. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise. Arrangements by the Elliston Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory, 540-268-2007.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you , and especially Ronnie , Marvin , David , Sammie and Debbie. Words cannot express enough of just how wonderful and faithful your Mother was. I have so many good memories of her in my life at church and her music ! Just know your loss is Heaven's Gain. I love you all.
