Hugh Don Wright

Mr. Hugh Don Wright, age 87, of Lindale, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at a local hospital.

Mr. Wright was born in Floyd County, Georgia on August 30, 1936, son of the late Ellis Byrd "Al" Wright and the late Addie Irene Womack Wright. He was also preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Ruth Newberry Wright, by two sisters, Jewel Childers and Kate Carver, and by three brothers, Lewis, Clyde & Morris Wright. Mr. Wright was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce and attended New Bethel Congregational Methodist Church. Prior to retirement, he worked for Inland Container. Mr. Wright enjoyed playing softball in his younger years.

Aside from his love of baseball, specifically the Braves, Paw Paw loved his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events. He had many titles in his life, but being a Paw Paw was his favorite role. He was always offering them love, support, and encouragement. He was a great role model of how a dad/grandfather should be. He cared for others in so many ways. He shared many smiles and tears over the years. He brought integrity into everything he did. He was an incredible man who will be forever in our hearts.

Survivors include two daughters, Lori Eddy and Sherry Garrett (Chris); two sons, Ray Wright (Patsy) and Joey Wright (Leigh); grandchildren, Jimmy Garrett (Emily), Thomas Eddy, Janzen Wright, and Addie Garrett; great grandchildren, Josie Eddy and Charlee Garrett; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 1pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Mr. Glenn Boatner officiating and his grandson, Thomas Eddy, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in New Bethel Cemetery with his grandson, Jimmy Garrett officiating and the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 6 until 8pm. At other hours, they will be at Sherry's residence.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday at 12:30pm and include, Active: Jimmy Garrett, Thomas Eddy, Barry Boatner, Richie Digsby, and Mark White. Honorary: Janzen Wright and Eddie Digsby.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Thomas Eddy for taking such great care of Paw Paw, and to the staff of Atrium Health ER and ICU.
