Josephine Corpora Obituary

JOSEPHINE M. CORPORA, 89 ROCKFORD - Josephine M. Corpora, 89, of Rockford died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in Northwoods Care Center. Born April 9, 1919, in Rockford, daughter of Sam and Bessie (Calmia) Salvagio. Was a graduate of St. Anthony Grade School, Central High School and attended Rockford School of Business. Married Dan Corpora on Oct. 31, 1942; he died in 1976. Worked at City National Bank as an officer in the Safety Deposit Department and retired after 24 years in 1979. She was president of Rockford Safety Deposit Organization and NSO treasurer. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Catholic Order of the Foresters and Rockford Business Women's Association. Survivors include children, Stephanie First of New Berlin, Wis., and Thomas M. (Mary Kay) Corpora of Carbondale; grandchildren, Christine First, Scott (Kelly) First, Jillian, Nic and Simone Marie Corpora; great-granddaughters, Taylor Rose First and Anna Grace First; nieces, Bernice Corey and Eleanor Colby; sisters-in-law, Joyce Corpora-Anderson and Emily Corpora; and several additional nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband; sisters, Rose Krist and Grace Pozzi; nephew, Frank Pozzi Jr.; brothers-in-law, Sam Corpora and Joseph Corpora; sister-in-law, Sandy Hathaway; and niece, Linda Manley. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. I first met Jo over 35 years ago when I started at City National Bank. As I was introduced, Jo asked if I was related to Geroge Cuccia, I said, yes, he's my Dad. Jo really got a laugh over this. You see, my Dad and Jo dated while they were in High School. You should have seen her smile as she talked about those old tiimes. Jo has a special place in my heart. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
