OSCAR 'BARNEY' BARNES SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Oscar "Barney" Barnes of Sault Ste. Marie died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 16, 1931, in Cumberland, Wis. Served in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1968. Upon retirement he worked for the U.S. Customs as an inspector. Married Joyce Benoit on Jan. 10, 1970. Upon their retirement they traveled extensively throughout the United States. He loved golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting and the casinos. Also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survived by wife, Joyce; children, Harold (Kathy) Barnes, Gail (John) Ingrassia, Clyde (Vanessa) Barnes, Cathy Brazil and Rick Isaacson; sisters, Naomi, Evelyn and Irma; grandchildren, Deanne, Terry, Michael, Lacey, Geoffrey, Tina, Karlina, Brianna and Carter; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Dakota, Gabriel, Jennifer, Jillian, Natalie, Benjamin and Avrie; great-great-grandchildren, Paige and Shaylee; brother-in-law, Howard (Pat) Benoit; sister-in-law, Betty Wonnacott; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by parents, George and Mary Barnes; brothers, Norman, Minard, Pete, Durward, Marshall and Joe; daughter, Sandra Dee; and great-granddaughter, Mandy. A special thank you to great-granddaughter, Brittany Laponsie for her loving care during his final days. Service at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home, with Pastor Barry Levine officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, in the funeral home, and from 9:30 a.m. Monday to time of service. Memorial contributions to the Hospice of the E.U.P., 508 Ashmun, Sault Ste.
