Grady Sarrett Obituary
Grady Sarrett Jr. was called to his heavenly home on December 20, 2018 after a long illness. Grady was born on August 14, 1935, an only child, to Grady Sr. and Mae Sarrett. Born in Honolulu Hawaii, the family soon moved to Dayton, Ohio where Grady played trumpet in his high school marching band. After graduating from Miami University, he completed his dental degree from Ohio State where he met and married his first wife, Jeanette (Jan) Welsh.
Grady served in the Air Force from 1960-1963 and was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After the Air Force, Grady set up a private dental practice in Ft. Worth retiring in 1995. In 1983 he married his second wife, Mary Kay Sarrett. They moved to Ruidoso, NM in 1995. Due to health concerns, they moved to Las Cruces in 2015.
An avid outdoorsman, Grady enjoyed backpacking, hiking, camping, fishing and obtained his pilots license in 1983. His many outdoor trips took him to the US, Canada, Mexico and the Mediterranean. His passion for flying included his love for building and flying radio-controlled airplanes.
Grady was involved in many organizations and volunteered on various boards. A member for First Christian Church in Ruidoso for 21 years, he had a special relationship with God and served his church well.
Grady had a love for music including attending symphonies and concerts but his joy was singing in the ENMU choir and his favorite, the FCC Choir.
Nothing could compare to his love for Mary Kay, their children, their cocker spaniel brat-mutts and watching the entertaining wildlife in Alto and Las Cruces.
Grady was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay of Las Cruces, daughters Ann Sarrett of Ruidoso, Karen Houghton (Tim) of Ft. Worth, sons, Scott Sarrett (Lisa) of Ft. Worth and Pike Lilley (Amber) of Granbury, TX, grandchildren Jennifer, Cameron, Wendall and Lauren and greatgrandchildren, Jackson, Cayden, Bailey and Oliver.
As our guiding light, he was respected by many and he will be missed by all and forgotten by none.
Services are Saturday, January 12 at 2PM, First Christian Church Ruidoso with interment to follow in the prayer garden.
