Gertrude Estes Obituary
She was born in Bennington on Nov. 10, 1936, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Mathers) Coyne, and received her education in local schools.
She married Donald J. Estes in Bennington on Jan. 9, 1954.
In earlier years, Mrs. Estes worked at Yankee Notions and The Yard Stick, both sewing shops in Bennington.
She was known as a seamstress and painter, as well as an avid birdwatcher. She was active in Bennington County Kennel Club and enjoyed breeding, training and showing German shepherds.
Survivors include her husband; four children, Deborah Knapp of Milford, N.H., Mark Estes of Sarasota, Fla., Jeffrey Estes of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Kevin Estes of Bennington; a niece; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; seven siblings, Helena Powell, Kathryn Brown, Edward, Ralph, Stephen, Gregory and Thomas Coyne.
She was predeceased by three siblings, Milton and John "Jack" Coyne, and Mary Pat Livingston.
There are no calling hours scheduled.
The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
Burial will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice, in care of Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

Uncle Don, Deb, Mark, Jeff & Kevin: I was in shock and very sad when my Dad called to tell me Aunt Gert had gone home. Then all of the good ole days flooded my mind. Even though we haven't been close in many years she still always held a special spot in my memories. I pray for strength for the family to get though these tough times.
