Priscilla Butler

BENNINGTON - Priscilla "Sookie" Butler, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 3, 1929, in North Bennington, the daughter of Frank J. and Edith B. Legacy.
She was the 1947 salutatorian at North Bennington High School. In 1949, she graduated from Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and later received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Russell Sage College.
On Nov. 11, 1950, she married Gerald F. Butler in North Bennington.
Mrs. Butler was employed at Putnam Memorial Hospital as an operating room nurse, night supervisor and director of The School of Nursing. She also taught medical terminology and office procedures at Southern Vermont College.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bennington.
She was an avid golfer and recorded a hole-in-one at Mount Anthony Country Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge and playing the piano.
Survivors include her husband, of Bennington; two sons Mark Butler, of Westborough, Massachusetts, and Scott Butler, of Oakland, California; four grandsons; and a nephew.
Mrs. Butler was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Morse.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Second Congregational Church, 115 Hillside St., Bennington, with the Rev. Mary Lee Clark officiating. A reception will follow in Webster Hall at the church.
Burial will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
