Bob FRINK Obituary

FRINK, Bob
Bob Frink, loving father, husband and grandfather, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Bob was surrounded by family as he left this world, to be rejoined with his loving wife, Doris Ann Frink, at the gates of heaven.

Bob Frink was born in Medford, Oregon on October 12, 1928. He graduated from Ashland High School where he excelled in basketball and football. He was an All State and All American in basketball and football in high school and was given a full ride football scholarship to the University of Idaho where he played quarterback.

Bob began his automotive career in 1950, selling cars while still attending college. He purchased his first dealership in 1960, in Albany, Oregon, relocating to Sacramento in 1968, to open Bob Frink Chevrolet. As a self-made Mega dealer he bought and sold 30 automobile dealerships over his career. He was the owner of Lexus of Sacramento and Lexus of Roseville at his death. Over his career as a car dealer, he attained the Toyota President's Club award, the General Motors Excellence Award, and the Elite of Lexus.

Bob was also an accomplished pilot who flew and owned various jets over his lifetime. In addition to flying, one of his favorite pastimes was fishing with his buddies. Many a story can be told by his dear friends. He was an honorary Sacramento Sheriff's deputy, a supporter of the Sacramento Sherriff's Department and a member of the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation.

Bob and his generosity touched the lives of many. Those who met him never forgot him. He always left an impression of greatness and strength on those who had the blessing to meet him. Many opportunities for others were created by this man who achieved greatness from such humble beginnings. He valued every employee equally, appreciating all that they did. His love of song was strong and he sang whenever he could gather an audience. Although 'Think Frink' is rarely seen on license plate frames anymore, it is exactly what he would want you to do.

Bob was predeceased by the love of his life, Doris Ann Frink. He is survived by his only 3 children, Michael Frink, Roberta Frink and Patrick Frink and his six beloved grandchildren, as well as Ellen Asbury-Frink.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Mortuary, located at 69855 East Ramon Road in Cathedral City, CA 92234. An intimate memorial reception will immediately follow at the Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donation be made to the UC Davis Heart Center. Donations may be mailed to: UC Davis Health System, Health Sciences Advancement, 4900 Broadway, Suite 1150, Sacramento, CA 95820. Please make checks payable to UC Regents.

Dear Frink family, so sorry for your loss. I worked for many Frink dealerships for nearly 18 years under one of his GMs Dan Hoskins. I first started at Sacramento Mitsubishi and then moved up to Portland Oregon when the Hyundai store in Milwaukie was built in 1986. During those years I was able to learn a strong work ethic and provide a great living for my family. After many years of the car business I decided to take a break and sell real estate. I called Mr. Frink at the management office in Sacramento and left a message regarding an opportunity I had found for another dealership. He was kind enough to call me back and told me that God didn't put him here on earth to just build dealerships. I will always remember that conversation. It was clear to me that he had grown to value Gods will and respect for people over dealerships, and it wasn't just about the money. I have a great deal of respect for people who use the talent God gives them, and that's exactly what Bob did. He was able to provide many jobs for those who wanted to work and improve the quality of their lives as well as their families. Many thanks, and God bless your family.

I first met Bob working on the Roseville Auto Mall; bigger than life with huge, auto-dealer rings and stories of trips flown down to palm dessert & elsewhere, yet he also took the time to consider and honestly answer questions from a naive recent college grad who thought he knew everything. Later, when my wife and I moved back into the neighborhood, we enjoyed talking with him while watching him hand out full-sized candy bars to the Halloween hordes, still the outgoing bigger-than-life guy- I'm saddened to see him go.

I only knew Mr. Frink through Bobby, but what a wonderful son he has and lovely homes I have had the pleasure of visiting....always with the warmest reception from his mother, Doris, when in Palm Dessert. My prayers are with Bobby and family. John Bryan

Bob was a great guy and contributed much to the Sacramento area. Many don't know that he was instrumental in supporting and encouraging some of the most famous drivers in the sport of drag racing. The year was 1968 and a young newly discharged soldier was looking for his first job, and Bob gave him that break. A young Gary Ormsby worked hard selling cars and rose to the position of sales manager for Bob. Gary raced dragsters at this time and Bob was gracious in his support of Gary and his endeavors. It is here were Gary learned his leadship skills which allowed him to go one to own and operate Roseville Toyota/Subaru as well as go on to win the 1989 National Hot Rod Association National Championship in Top Fuel. Bob also support his other employees during this time which included Jim "The Lizard" Herbert (NHRA Top Fuel), Vern Grisel and the Grisel family racing operation and many, many more. I would like to thank the Frink family for Bob's support of the sport of Drag Racing-Thank you and God's speed to your father he was a great man.

Michael, Roberta and Patrick

I stopped by the management office and stood in your Dad's office with Patrick. It is hard to imagine him not behind that desk looking at some report, getting ready to have a meeting about some NADA meeting he attended or sending one of us parts unknown TODAY! I would not be the person I am, nor have the position and success I have today without the opportunities he gave me. Your father's "dealership" family provided so many of us the tools to succeed. I am thankful to have been a part of that. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

One of the last guys at the long table. I can see Bob, Mel, Ricci, McDermott, Clyde, Gill, Hurst, Anson and a few others having lunch and talking about the world. I was a young guy who was lucky enough to know these guys in the 80's; when life was good and every day brought a new challenge. Farewell Bob, you were a square guy; a good guy.

Michael Robbie and Pat,
As I told Patrick yesterday I have soo many memories of Bob he was and is one of the leaders in our industry. I personally am thankful that I was under his wing for as long as would keep me there. I think about him so many times my employees all know him by name as I bring it up often. Remember when times are bad they are going to get good. So sorry for your loss.

Pat and Robbie,
I am sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I had heard about your Mom only a couple years ago. Your parents were always the most wonderful hosts and we had a lot of fun throughout our college years around your family. Losing parents is very hard, even in sickness. I wish all your families love and peace throughout this process. We will say our prayers for your father and you all. I hope you find healing and enjoy fond memories. Your parents were amazing people.

Dear Robbie, Michael and Patrick:

Ahh, N300BF, a wide winged brand new Cessna Chancellor your pop bought from me at age 50. A present to him, he said. We had twenty five years of flying fun. And he was a good stick. Flying West is a flight all aviators ultimately make and I'm certain his was into an everlasting sun. With deepest sympathy, Bill Myers

Dear Robbie, I'm sorry that I didn't get to see your dad before he passed away. Laura Sherman and I had planned to get over to the management office to see him. I have such fond memories of my three years as an employee of RPM Management. I think about you often, too. Your dad was an extreme optimist and a great businessman. He introduced me to people in my life that have made huge impacts on who I am today. I'll never forget him. My sincerest condolences.

Dear Robbie, Michael and Pat,

I just wanted to express my sincere condolences and sadness at the passing of your wonderful Dad. I have nothing but great memories of all the times I spent with your family during our college years.... being welcomed like family at your amazing home in Tahoe and also in the Desert. The fun pep rally parties at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco on the eve of the USC vs. Cal game. He was larger than life and I loved being in his presence and also your beautiful, loving mother. My heart actually aches writing this. I lost my Dad a couple of years ago and I know how hard this time is. May God keep you in his embrace during this difficult time and know that friends are sending love.

A tribute to the memory of my long ago employer, mentor and friend. I enjoyed my years working with this successful man. Bob made me a job offer that I could not refuse, paid me top dollar for a job well done. You would have thought I was his daughter the way I spoke of him and his business. While he got my on the job devotion, he earned my respect as my employer. I still enjoy many fun memories of the old days in the car business. My heart is sad to know another legend must now live on in our memories. Hugs to the family. May Bob rest in peace+ Cyndee Watson-Reed

Though I knew him only shortly, he did touch our lives profoundly. He will be truly missed by all his friends and family. I'm only sorry that I, like many who knew him, I will not be able to attend the services, and pay our respect due to the location of his memorial reception.
God bless you and keep you Bob. See ya in the after...

I grieve for the last of the greatest of men, as he has influenced so many in his life time. Truthfully, I envied those fortunate enough to really know him and find myself grateful for the glimpses I got. God bless you with comfort in this dark time. All my love. Vanessa.

So sorry to hear about his passing. The Frinks were such good friends to my in-laws and the most generous people. I have many good memories of time spent with his family when he was still in Sacramento. He had a great RV painted with Disney characters and I was able to go to a Cal game with him and Doris and my Duffel Family. One of the nicest people I ever knew. My thoughts and prayers are with his children and grandchildren.
