Dorothy Akins Obituary

Dorothy Jean Akins, 78, of Gold River, California, went home to her Lord surrounded by family on August 28, 2017. She was preceded by her father, Dee Wyatt Akins, Jr. and mother, Martha Jane Stanley Akins. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, "Jeannie" leaves behind her older brother, Dee Wyatt "Buddy" Akins III (Margaret) and younger brother Thomas Stanley Akins (Irene). She is survived by her son Ealon Aubrey "Buddy" Hubbert III (Carolyn), daughters Elizabeth Paige Lawson (John), Susan Michelle Watson (John) as well as six grandchildren, a niece, three nephews, and cousins who all hold her close to their hearts. We will all miss her infectious laugh, mischievous sense of humor and her tenacious pursuit of truth. She had a great passion for the outdoors. She enjoyed skiing, camping, walks along the river, sailing, and riding her horses. She enjoyed serving others with Meals on Wheels in the Ft. Worth area. The absence of her energy here on Earth will be felt by friends and family near and wide.

My heart goes out to my good friend Elizabeth and her family. I will never forget your mom getting mad at us for giggling in church . So glad we all got to share a lunch with our moms. Sharing memories and laughter. And her being able to enjoy the ponies. Was a wonderful day and one i will always cherish!

My sincere condolences to your family. May God "who comforts us in all our trials" (2 Cor 1:4) comfort you and your family at such a difficult time. I know God will help you to endure because he cares for you (1Peter 5 :7).

I've been thinking of Jean lately, wondering how she was. It saddens me greatly to find that she has died. We had so many good times(she and I, as well as the families' adventures). I used to call her J-bean--I don't remember how that got started, but that is how I remember her. We had so many good laughs together. I love that, in the obituary, you said she was ever in "pursuit of the truth", and indeed, she was. She was a wonderful friend. I will keep my memories close and recommend you keep your good memories of her close at hand at this difficult time. In that way, she will always remain with us.
Thinking of you all with love,
Bonnie
