Herb Gray Obituary

Darrell (Herb) Gray
January 22, 1936 - September 25, 2022
Las Vegas, Nevada - Early Sunday morning September 25th, 2022, our beloved Darrell (Herb) Gray, loving husband, and father passed away at the age of 86 surrounded by loved ones at home in Las Vegas. Herb was born January 22nd, 1936, in the State of Washington to parents Loren and Phyllis (Rek) Gray but lived most of his life in Sacramento.
Herb received his college degree from Sacramento State in June, 1957. He began his renowned business career as founder of a CPA firm in Sacramento in 1965. Things really took off professionally when he became an owner and President of Farmers Markets grocery stores. He concluded his career as CFO of Abbey Carpet Co.
On July 26th, 1974, he married the love of his life Kathleen (Zahn) Gray. He is survived by wife Kathi, sons Michael and Thomas, stepsons Gary and Gregory Garcia, and 7 grandchildren.
An avid sports fan, Herb's passions were golfing, football, and horse racing. He traveled the world for both business and pleasure and lived by the motto "no problem," no matter the circumstance.
Known for a unique sense of humor and quick wit, Herb was friendly, outgoing, and enjoyed life to its fullest.
Funeral held will be a private ceremony with only family members present.

Clearly one of my favorite friends.
We shared a lot of great times together.
His wisdom about life and business always
intrigued me.

Farewell to a dear astute CPA & supermarket chain owner that accomplished much and expressed so few words. Just an example of Herb:s genius behind that Cheshire cat smile. It was a very interesting journey indeed, as we watched from the "bleacher seats" of your life. God bless
