Oct 4, 2006
On Oct. 4, 2006, our loving husband and father went to be with our Lord. He was born to Rev. Irving John and Margaret Fuller Hazelton in Tulare, Calif., on Jan. 5, 1925, beloved husband of 44 years to Betty Ewing Hazelton, devoted father to Carol Baxter and her husband Jeffrey Baxter of Carlsbad, Calif. He was a loving uncle to nieces, nephews and their children.
A resident of Placerville for 72 years, he attended a local grammar school, was an Eagle Scout and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1943. Irving served his country during WWII with the Company K, 376th Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in Germany on March 23, 1945, also four Bronze Stars, European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign Medals, WWII Victory Medal on October 1945 and a Good Conduct Medal. Irving received his BA in Physics from Point Loma Nazarene University (Pasadena College) in 1950. He worked for Diamond Springs Lime Co. for two years and in 1958 began his 35 year career at Aerojet in Sacramento. A physicist in Solid Propellant R & D Division, Mechanical Properties Dept., he designed laboratory equipment and had articles published in High Speed Testing, Vol. V. Interscience Publishers, Inc., NY. He retired in 1993. He enjoyed photographing family, weddings and of course Gods great outdoors. Many happy times were spent with family and friends in the High Sierras, fishing, hiking, camping, and cross-country skiing. Irving was an avid reader, always seeking more knowledge to share with others. He was active in his church and served on the church board for many years. His love of God, deep faith and quiet demeanor, garnered him the love and respect of his family and friends. He will be truly missed by all whose lives he touched. Irving will remain forever in our hearts.
