Mary Teaney Carton

Mary Teaney Carton, 98, Charlotte, North Carolina, died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at The Cypress in Charlotte. Mrs. Carton was born October 3, 1908 in Highlands, New Jersey to the late Mark and Anna lindz Mayer Teaney. Mrs. Carton was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1992. Survivors left to cherish the fond memories of Mary are her children, John W. Carton (Delores) of Stuart, Fla., Frances C. Birrane (John) of Naples, Fla., Thomas C. Carton (Wanda), of Matthews, N.C. and Rosemary C. Smollon (Frank) of Annapolis, Md. Mary was the proud grandmother of 12 and great grandmother of 17. Mary's interests in life included her art and sewing and was a proud member of the Student's Art League. She was the head of the fashion and design department at Gimbles in New York. Visitation for Mrs. Carton will be Monday, April 30, 2007 from 4:30-7p.m., with a prayer service at 7p.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Charlotte, N.C. A Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at 11a.m. at St. Gabriel with Father Ed Sheridan celebrant of St. Gabriel and Father Mark Lawlor, concelebrant of St. Vincent de Paul. Burial will be immediately following at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews, N.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's honor to St. Vincent de Paul's building fund. Arrangements for the Carton family are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel, Matthews, N.C.
