Sharon Evans Obituary

Sharon Lucille Evans

May 10, 1938 - September 29, 2023

Sacramento, California - On September 29, Sharon L. Evans passed away surrounded in love by her three children following a battle with leukemia and related health issues. Born May 10, 1937, in Stockton, California to Stanley and Claudine Hughes. Sharon grew up in Ione California, where she graduated from Ione High School in 1956. After graduation, Sharon moved to Sacramento to study nursing at Sacramento City College, receiving her RN in 1959. While attending nursing school, Sharon met Edward P. Evans Jr, an airman assigned to McClellan Airbase. Sharon and Ed fell in love and got married on February 21, 1960. They were married for 57 years until Ed passed away in May of 2017. Ed and Sharon lived in Sacramento where they raised their three children, Rocky, Kate, and Pat. Sharon worked as an RN in a variety of settings including family practice, pediatrics, government health, and public health, before retiring from active nursing in the 1980s. While volunteering at Luther Burbank High School in the late 1980s Sharon found a second career as a community outreach liaison and worked for the Sacramento City Unified School District at Burbank and Thurgood Marshall Continuation School until 2005. Sharon was active in community organizations, serving on the Board of the Old Sacramento School House, as on officer in local and state PTSA, as a volunteer for the Red Cross, and as a parent volunteer with the Parkway Swim Club. Sharon was a huge fan of all sports and loved watching nature and home-improvement shows on television. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ed. She is survived by her children Rocky Evans (Joseph Hansen), Kate Evans Scott (Bob), Patrick Evans (Yvette), granddaughter Miranda Evans, as well as brother Butch Hughes (Linda), sister Vicki Johnston, and sisters-in-law Kathleen Sullivan and Gerri Baggio. She will be greatly missed by her nephews and nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces, as well as many friends here and around the country. Services for Sharon will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 9 at Gormley and Sons Funeral Home (2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento). In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to: Clara's House at www.clarashouse.org
