Steve Terwilliger Obituary

Steve Terwilliger
July 1, 2021
Fair Oaks, California - Steven R. Terwilliger, 63, of Fair Oaks, Calif., went home to be with the Lord on July 1, 2021.
A graduate of Green High School in Green, Ohio, Steve attended the Florida Institute of Technology, before moving to Hawaii and then settling in northern California.
His 41-year career as an engineer spanned a wide range of projects for the federal government, from underwater submersibles to quality control systems and enterprise architecture for defense electronics production.
Steve was a founding member and elder at Reformation Fellowship Orthodox Presbyterian Church where he devoted more than 20 years to equipping and encouraging other believers. His love for God touched countless lives and his life was a testimony to loving others well.
Steve smiled kindly, shook hands firmly, and listened intently when others spoke. He made others feel seen, and heard, and known.
Steve loved to laugh. From the way he whispered jokes to the girl sitting in front of him in high school geometry (who would later become his wife), to his greeting of 'Joe's Crab Shack,' or 'Al's Pizza' when answering his kids' calls, he took every opportunity to bring humor to the lives of those around him.
Outside of his family and the Lord, Steve's other great love was the outdoors, which grew from childhood camping trips with his parents, Scouting—Steve was an Eagle Scout—and mountaineering adventures with his brothers. He deeply appreciated the wonder and miracle of the natural world, found peace in the extraordinary gift of it, and shared that appreciation with his family and friends as they traversed the country on tent camping road trips, scaled ice-encrusted mountains, scuba dived wherever the water was warm, and enjoyed the liberating thrill of motorcycling.
Steve is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Heather Gray (Aaron) of Gainesville, Va., Bethany Shields (Edward) of Sacramento, and Steven (Hannah) of Sacramento; grandchildren, Calvin, Felicity, Lilyana and a new baby due in January; and brothers, Dan (Dara) of Green, Ohio, and Marty of Rockville, Md. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Patricia; and sister-in-law, April.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on July 31 at Reformation Fellowship, 914 Cirby Way, Roseville, CA 95661.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Steve may be made to Equipping Leaders International via mail: 205 Arapahoe Ct., Villa Rica, GA 30180. This Christian mission organization is devoted to training gospel-transformed leaders around the world; contributions in Steve's memory will be used primarily for ministry in Latin America.

Steve was my elder when I attended RF. He always had a cheerful and friendly demeanor - always smiling and engaging with others. It was a blessing to have known him. Until we meet again. Philippians 1:3
