Clara Harwood Obituary

Clara Lee Cottingham Harwood, 85, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and formerly of Granite Quarry, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Treasure Coast Hospice, Ft. Pierce, Fla. Born Dec. 2, 1931 in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Bracy Cottingham and Attie Bowen Cottingham. She was educated in the China Grove schools and was a homemaker. Mrs. Harwood attended Rowan Mills Baptist Church in her early years. Clara loved nothing more than her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved to bowl in her earlier years and was a member of several different leagues. In her later years, she had lunch most Tuesdays at K&W with a bunch of her past bowling friends. She loved going to the Isle Casino, Pompano Beach, Fla. She loved to cook and made the best chicken and dumplings, homemade biscuits and red velvet cake you could put in your mouth! In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd L. Harwood on May 10, 2007; granddaughter, Ashlee Deanne Harwood in 1987; and sisters, Evelyn Knoll, Zula Mae Haynes and Louise Cox. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Dean Harwood (Nancy) of China Grove, Debbe Harwood Brown (Richard) of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Rick Harwood (Rhonda) of Rockwell, Jeff Harwood (Melinda) of Powell, Tenn. and Eddy Harwood (Patti) of Granite Quarry; grandchildren, Heather Broome (Marty), Lindsey Dorsett (Keith), Drew Harwood (Abby), Megan Fielden (Brad), Jordan Harwood, Jessica Harwood and Taylor Harwood; great-grandchildren, Alexis Locklair (Hunter), Brittany Livengood, Greyson Eller, Liza Harwood, Addison Dorsett and Piper Fielden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: The family will receive friends 12:30-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at the Summersett Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of her son, Dean and Nancy Harwood in China Grove. Services: Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Hammill, minster of Open Door Baptist Church, Richfield officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. Memorials: Memorials may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5090 Dunn Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Harwood family. We miss Clara very much, she is often thought of in our house with the fondest memories! We feel lucky that we were able to spend the last few weeks of her life with her, along with one of our dogs Tilley-the hospital had us fill out lots of paper allowing Tilley to visit with Clara in her room. In December 2016, we decorated our house Purple, a color that Clara loved, she never got to see it, 2 days before the party she was admitted to hospital. Our dog Tilley had her Purple Christmas Party Dress on when she went to visit Clara and we were able to share Christmas photo's with Clara. Sent with our Love Andy and Jim
