Doris Russell

1936 - 2022

Doris Marie Thompson Russell, 85 of China Grove, went into eternal rest on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Doris was born on Oct. 7, 1936 in Rowan County to the late Robert Thompson and Blanche Stafford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Ray Russell; son, William Ray Russell; brother, Bobby Thompson; nephew, Kevin Thompson; and a dear friend, Harold Richard Harrington. Doris was a true example of a hard worker. She was raised at the Oxford Orphanage in N.C., where a hard work ethic was instilled in her. She worked as a time-keeper for Parkdale Mills in Landis for over 30 years before retiring. She later went on to work as a sales associate for Wal-Mart for over 15 years. She was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord. She was sweet, caring, and always eager to learn how to do new things. She loved plants and flowers and enjoyed word search books. She also had a sweet tooth and knew how to make delicious peanut brittle and fudge. She always looked forward to going to Myrtle Beach in the summer. Those left to cherish her memory include her step-son, Jeffery (Libby) Russell; nieces, Sabetha (Tim) Upright and Pam Troutman; half-sister, Robin Rudick; step-mother, Doris Thompson; sister-in-laws, Betsy Thompson and Peggy Adams; nephews, Steve (Jenny) Thompson, Kim Thompson and Scott (Kristy) Adams; two grandchildren, Jeffery (Christina) Russell and Lynn Russell; seven great-grandchildren; and a loyal friend, Shannon Weddington. Arrangements: The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 at Whitley's Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 Thursday, April 14 at West Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Curtis Parker officiating.
