Phyllis Rogers “Phyl” Castor, 91, of Rockwell, passed away at her home surrounded by family on Friday, February 9, 2024. She was born on November 29, 1932, in Cabarrus county, and was the daughter of the late William Bryant Rogers and Annie Milam Rogers.
She was a 1950 graduate of China Grove High School. She was employed at Cannon Mills for a number of years; worked as a receptionist for Dr. Winfrey Whicker; and was part owner of “The Craft Boutique” in China Grove, which later relocated to Kannapolis. She also worked as an assistant teacher within Rowan Salisbury school system, at Faith Elementary.
Phyl was a member of Organ Lutheran church, where she sang in the chancel choir, was a member of the OWINGS group and taught children's Sunday school.
She was an original member of the “Sweet Potato Queens”. She loved to sew, paint, and craft: she was well known for her craft lessons.
Phyl was preceded in death by her husband, Red Castor and her daughter, Jan. Survivors include her son, Bryan Monroe Castor (Christy) of Lexington, SC; daughter, Traci Castor Anderson (Keith) of Rockwell; grandchildren Matt Corrigan (Lisa); Annie Corrigan Deal (Chase); Lee Moser; Alex Castor; Kevin Castor (Danielle); great grandchildren Lila, Brielle, Violet,Brendan, and Farrah.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, February 17, 2024, 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 17, 2024, in the Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Pastor Tonya Brittain officiating.
