Alma Jay Staker (87) passed away peacefully June 6th, 2018 at home. Residing with his son Brad. He was born on June 30th, 1930 in Roberts Idaho, the eldest son of Alma Opal and Mary Atha Proctor Staker. He loved his family and had a love of education. He graduated from the University of Utah with his master's degree in Special Education using this knowledge as a teacher at Kearns, Skyline and Granite High, eventually becoming the Administrator of the Habilitation Center (now known as the Hilda B. Jones Center). He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1947 to 1951. He received a total of seven medals, including two Bronze Stars. He also received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for 15 years and 4,419 hours of service to the Disabled American Veterans.
Jay served as a bishop and was a member of the High Council in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Married to Barbara (Barlow) Staker in 1951, solemnized temple marriage in 1956, later divorced. Married to Meta Sexton, later divorced. He had a strong testimony, and was a very gentle, kind, and supportive father.
He will be missed by his 6 surviving children. Karen Young (Jay), Mark Staker (Paula), Jody Staker (Shar), Debbie Worthington (Craig), Brad Staker (Janet), Bobbi Stillman (Scott). 24 Grandchildren, 59 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great, Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Dick, Don, Allen and sister Carol Blanscett.
He donated his body to the U of U School of Medicine, there will no viewing. Memorial Service will be held on June 30th at 2:00pm at the LDS church located at 4845 Woodhaven Dr, Taylorsville, UT.
