Darrell Ryan Obituary
1958 ~ 2018
Darrell (Mick) Ryan was born in 1958 in Los Angeles to Douglas Ryan and Dora (Dodie) Varela and moved to Murray in 1962. He returned to California for a few years but came back to Utah, living most of his life in the area. He graduated from Granger High School and spent a few years at the University of Utah where he participated in the football program. He had a varied career, working at the U.S. Post Office, Continental Airlines, as the owner of Ryan's Automotive, and finally as a bus driver for the UTA.
Darrell was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma and was given six months to live. As with all areas of his life, he fought back hard and strong, prevailing for six years. He seemed to be winning at every turn but finally succumbed in the early hours of September 3rd. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas, and his brother, Gregory. He is survived by his son, Michael; his daughter, Randi; and grandson, Lincoln. He leaves behind his Mother, Dora (Dodie) Gomez; his brother, Mitch Ryan; his sister, Jody Adamson; and a great number of beloved nieces and nephews.
Darrell (Mick) loved to perform for people. He played guitar and bass, sang, did stand-up comedy, and told endless jokes. He was also a great cook, and many people remember him for the food he would bring. His love of life was apparent in everything he did, whether performing, riding his motorcycle, attending the Mountain Man Rendezvous, playing with young kids that adored his laughter and friendship, or relaxing while watching classic movies. He leaves behind many people that will miss his smile.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Murray 16th Ward, 619 West, 5750 South, Murray, Utah, with a viewing from 9:00-10:15 a.m. prior to the service. Interment immediately following at Murray Cemetery. The family will hold a wake at 4:00 pm after the services at Shula's 347 Grill, 3524 S. Market Street (near 2700 W) West Valley City.

It's with great sadness that I offer sincere condolences to the Family and Friends of this unique man. Darrell changed the atmosphere of every room he entered and lived his life with passion. There was "never a dull moment" and I cherish our years of laughter and daily improve comedy skits. Darrell's legacy lives forever in the hearts of those lucky enough to know this tremendous person.
