Irene Levine Obituary

Irene Levine 1921 ~ 2006 Irene Levine, dearly loved wife of Nathan Levine and mother of Judy Magid and Michael Levine, passed away Oct. 2, 2006. Born Dec. 6, 1921, in Salt Lake City, to Joe Doctorman and Yetta Chait Doctorman, Irene and her brother, the late Harry Doctorman, and sister Marjorie Doctorman Rosen, were reared by their father and beloved second mother Celia Chait Doctorman. Irene and Nat were married young and grew up together. Together, and individually, they have been amazing parents, always two steps ahead of their children, while standing firmly behind them. No matter what Judy and Michael did, they knew they always could come home. Everything Judy and Michael know about love and devotion, they learned from their parents. Like many young women during World War II, Irene went to work in an ammunitions factory in 1943, becoming a "Rosie the Riveter" to support the war effort. During the Utah uranium boom in the 1950s, she was a "penny stock" broker. She also was one of the first women real estate brokers in Salt Lake City, owning and operating Town and Country Realty. A past president of the National Council of Jewish Women, she was a volunteer in B'nai B'rith Women's Dolls for Democracy project and a volunteer at Congregation Montefiore. Her favorite work as an energetic cheerleader for her husband and children. In her spare time, she was her grandchildren's all-time favorite baker. Irene is survived by her cherished husband of 68 years, daughter, son and daughter-in-law Pamela Arnold Levine, and grandchildren, Jonathan Magid, Stephanie Magid, Sydney Magid and Joseph Stetich, Syvia Magid and Andrew Cohen, great-grandchildren Persimmon and Lazlo Stetich, sister Marjorie Doctorman Rosen and nephews and nieces. Graveside service will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at Montefiore Cemetery (Salt Lake City Cemetery) on 4th Avenue between R Street and S Street.

Dear Nathan and family,
I am sorry for the lost of your wife and mother. She was an amazing person. I was one of the aides that took care of her when she was on hospice and at Silverado. I enjoyed getting to her and Nathan.

Dear Nathan and Family,

It was with great sadness that I learned that Irene passed away this week. I wanted you to know how sorry I am. At the same time, I am so glad that I got to know the two of you at Silverado, and to share some great songs along the way (not to mention your wonderful dancing, Nathan).

I will miss you both- our music sessions won't be the same without you. Please know of my sincerest sympathy for your loss.

It is with deep respect and appreciation I remember the life of my Aunt Irene. The kindness and concern she had for others, I hope to pass on to my children.
My fondest memory of Aunt Irene is of her baking. When we were having a family event, I always looked forward to what she was bringing!

Mike,
I am so sorry about the death of your mother. She did, indeed, raise children who knew of love and devotion. May you and Judi be filled with comfort as you celebrate the life you had with her.
