Lorraine Hyde Clawson

Lorraine Hyde Clawson passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City on October 2, 2002. She granted us the understanding of a quiet courage and steady nobility as she faced the lonely struggles of Parkinson's disease. Mom was born on October 25, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Orson John and Rebecca Ormsby Hyde. She married Roy N. Bullen in 1940 and later divorced. On February 3, 1950 she married Spencer Wiscomb Clawson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Lorraine attended the University of Utah where she graduated in design and textiles. While at the University she was actively involved in student affairs and was president of the Phi Beta Phi Sorority. Later she was president of the Junior League in Salt Lake. Mom was active in the LDS church where she shared her leadership talents through many years of service as a ward and stake Relief Society President and Young Women's President. She was an interior decorator and loved beautiful surroundings. Mom was known as a beautiful and gracious woman by those who knew her. She loved to entertain and did so with great attention to detail. She was especially happy on the golf course where she played often with Dad. Mom found joy in the mountains and was fond of the many summers spent in Brighton. For 34 years she lived in California and loved her home by the ocean in La Jolla. Mom loved and gave of herself. She was kind and attentive to all who came into her life and she lifted the spirits of those with whom she associated. We will remember her as one who loved life and lived without complaint. She is survived by five children: Linda C. (David) Nearon, Alamo, CA; Nan. C. (Bruce) Hutchins; Laurie C. (Paul) Cook; Spencer H. (Ann) Clawson; Rebecca J. (Robert) Britton, all of Salt Lake City; 21 grandchildren and soon to be 23 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Katherine (John Z.) Brown and Marjorie (Jay) Eldredge of Salt Lake City. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband who passed away December 9, 1994; her sister Radie (Joe) Miller and brother John Hyde. Our family is extremely grateful for the dedicated and selfless service of Mom's fulltime caregiver for almost 9 years, Connie Bonilla. Funeral services will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, Monday, October 7, 2002 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, 12 noon where friends and family may call from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., prior to the services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
