Robert Lyle Pettit

1931 ~ 2013
Joy and laughter were ever abundant as Bob shared a song, a smile, a laugh, or a tear. Those were his gifts to the world, especially to his family. Robert Lyle Pettit was born a twin to Hermel Lyle and Mae Ball Pettit August 15, 1931. Our gentle and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away November 19, 2013.
Robert spent his childhood years in Pocatello, Idaho where he graduated from Pocatello High School and attended Idaho State University. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict. In 1963 he married Leilan Hill and they enjoyed 50 wonderful years together. He worked in the transportation industry for over 40 years in management. He was an avid reader, excellent teacher and lifelong learner. He was a great runner and loved all sports, especially football. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was one of the most faithful home teachers ever. He was a proud graduate from the LDS Institute of Religion at age 69.
Being with his family was the delight of his life. He enjoyed attending and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. His legacy lives on through is wife Leilan Hill; son, Robert C. (Chaunntel) Pettit; daughters, Stacey (Mark) Peterson, Meredith (Derek) Sainsbury; grandchildren: Mitchell, McKay, Madeline and Micah Pettit, Austin and Cole Peterson, Briant, Nathan and Joshua Sainsbury; brothers, Richard H. Pettit and Edwin E. Pettit.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the flowers, food, notes, acts of love and service on his behalf.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 25, 2013, 12:00 noon at the Valley Park 6th Ward, 5233 South 3200 West. Viewings will be held Sunday, November 24, 2013, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Monday at the church, 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Elysian Burial Gardens.
