Shantell passed away peacefully at home in Salt Lake City on Thursday, March 13 after a courageous battle with pancreas cancer. She was born in Salt Lake City 36 years ago to Cheri Fayle and Sherwin Pitts. She was a kind child who was known for her sense of humor.
Shantell married Matthew B. Seare on a boat in the middle of Lake Tahoe on May 30, 2004. They brought our beautiful Olivia Rose into the world in April 2008. Mothering Olivia was Shantell's greatest joy. Throughout her life, Shantell set and achieved many goals. After her diagnosis, Shantell's goal was to see Olivia turn 5 and start school. With unbelievably amazing strength, she achieved that goal. The love and strength of their family sustained Shantell as she fought to live. Her positive attitude and determination to live inspired others to look at how they lived their lives.
Her impact on those who knew her has been profound. Shantell played an active role in the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network helping others know they can live longer and better lives than previously thought.
Shantell was a legal assistant for the Durham, Jones and Pinegar law firm. She thrived at the firm and made many deep friendships. Our family would like to sincerely thank everyone there who selflessly contributed their time and resources; you are truly wonderful. We would also like to thank Matthew's employer, Chartwells for their caring and generous donations. The family would also like to thank Dr. Scott Samuelson and our Hospice nurse, Melissa, for their kind and attentive care.
Shantell is survived by her husband, daughter and parents; her sister Ashley, brother-in-law Dan and their children, Halle, Ethan and Sydney; her sister Chelsea and her daughter Breannah; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Shantell chose not to have a formal funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Olivia's college fund. A memorial account titled, Shantell Pitts-Seare Memorial, has been established for this purpose at Wells Fargo Bank.

Matt, I just wanted to let you know how sorry I was to hear that Shantell passed. I've been working at a different clinic and just heard. It was always a pleasure to care for her. I considered her a good friend and she'll be greatly missed. Best wishes to you and Olivia.

I had the opportunity to meet Shantell only once, on Halloween in Seattle in 2004. She and Matt had a party. And it was so much fun! Pumpkin carving contest, tunes, food and everything else. I was visiting my daughter Molly in Pdx at the time. The 3 of them had lived together for a time in the duplex that she is still in, again. (Universe-destiny kinda story)
Molly adored Shantell. And, like our Poppa says, "if you don't adore Molly you don't have a heart". So there you go.
God bless you Shantell for so deeply touching my Molly's life, and all of you that Shantell gifted with her spirit.
Shantell darlin', we'll hook up in heaven. <3

I didn't know her well, but I always looked forward to seeing her at our mutual friend's get togethers. She was easy to talk to, kind and seemed genuinely interested in the lives of others. I feel lucky to have been blessed with our brief meetings.

Shantell was a lovely person who was kind to all . She was a strong and determined young woman who loved her family very much. She especially loved her husband Matt and their young daughter Olivia. She will be missed but not forgotten. She is now with her Grandma Pitts and the rest of the angels who reside in Heaven
